I can't think of a more conflicting sequence of events. Never before have I felt such a wild range of emotions. On one hand, this year was unacceptable and this confirms that there was something seriously off with Petersen. On the other hand, he instantly made the program relevant again and despite this year's set back, he still appeared to have all the pieces in place to continue building "something special". I was still on board for a 20 year tenure of Petersen. But I'm excited to see what Lake can do with the program. I'm also terrified to see what he does because this is a huge step-up in responsibilities that he may not be suited to handle. I'm not sure you can ever replicate the program-building that Petersen instituted. At the same time I'm not sure you could get any worse with in-game coaching decisions and a lack of killer instinct. This could be the move that takes us to the next level as almost all of today's hot-shot coaches (Dabo, Day, Riley, Orgeron, etc) seem to have the Jimmy Lake temperament. This could also end in unmitigated disaster as plenty of boisterous head coaches with little coordinating experience have failed spectacularly.
I don't know what the fuck to think.
