I think it's moreso that Bruener and Ulofoshio had pretty similar skillsets, and they wanted Tuputala to be something he just didn't materialize into being. Taller, rangy, thumper type. I think Tuputala actually did a pretty good job in coverage, but his run support was lacking.Bruener just always seemed to make plays. Seemed like the previous staff didn't like him against the teams with better athletes like Oregon, Texas, Michigan. I kind of saw it where he'd get out athleted but I'd still take that over a guy who just can't read the play at all ie the other LB.
I could see Bruener being even better playing more straight forward Big 10 running offenses each week.
Ironically Tuputala's int showed me what I assume they think he can be. When he caught it I figured he was gonna get tackled for a short gain but looked great turning the corner and running past Utah's offense, but it ended up being the perfect showing of how he's a guy who just lacks something as he dropped the ball two yard shorts.I think it's moreso that Bruener and Ulofoshio had pretty similar skillsets, and they wanted Tuputala to be something he just didn't materialize into being. Bruener had always been the most physical tackler.
Still, Tuputala is a good player, and LB should be a position of insane strength for the defense next season.
