We are two years into the war and not a single major city has fallen. No one had that on their bingo cards back in 2022. Russia has abjectly failed and has only strengthened NATO.

What do you mean by this? No one thought Russia was going to invade? The US seemed to have better intel than Ukraine on that situation with the troop build up at the border.
As for the war itself, everyone including the US thought Ukraine was done for in short order. The combination of hit and run tactics, drones, and Russian incompetence is the only reason this shitshow has dragged out this far. The initial Russian attack was as bad as it possibly could have been and it got their elite troops annihilated.
I've said it before and I'll say it again - Tsar PGOS at the helm and the Red Army has captured Ukraine, MOLDOVA (hi @PurpleThrobber ), Kazakhstan, and more by now.
Russia went for the cheeky, half assed takeover strategy to hide the playbook for the away game @ NATO the next week. It failed spectacularly.

The end result was obvious once the sanctions failed almost immediately. I said a 5 year stalemate on page one, that was too optimistic for Ukraine as Russia is incompetent as you've said. Of course that was before Ukraine decided it was a good idea to slam their already outmanned army into the mine fields and trenches with no air or artillery support. And then everyone was surprised that it didn't work.

Apparently the US told them to focus all their forces on a single part of the front to try and hammer a breakthrough. It would have been ugly, but perhaps they punch through.
Instead, they did a multi pronged probe attack that didn't do much and was a failure.
They got cocky after they somehow pushed Russia out of Kherson.
