I can't wrap my head around how this whole thread has turned into an indictment on Ukraine, like they are the ones at fault, corrupt, etc. A nightclub is open in Kyiv. The horror. Blinken played guitar. The horror. Elections CAN be legitimate in a war ravaged and presently invaded country missing 20% of it's territory and millions of people with missiles flying around. Obviously.
Meanwhile Russia doesn't even get lip service. Not a peep.

It didn't have to be this way. But PGOS and the media loved Ukraine and said we should be protecting their great democracy. Reality is that Ukraine generally sucks and on the surface isn't worth defending with our money or attention. Defanging Russia is a better argument, but that's not how it was pitched out of the gates. For the reason that spending $100b+ to subdue Russia wasn't going to have the support with the people.

Was there not a preexisting elected government in place in Ukraine? Yes or no? Did the US not overthrow that government and replace it with their own so they could have unfettered access to a country on Russias border? Yes or no? What would the US do if this were done to Mexico by Russia? What would they do? Understand your enemy, and make no mistake Russia is our enemy, and try to know why they do what they do.
