Buy or Sell

Wilson wiff a bullet. Russell's the only one of those two who has shown for any stretch at all that he can win and lead a team with just his ability to throw. Luck's overrated but I'd take his next ten years over Cam's. Wilson's the best I've ever seen at avoiding big hits. Cam seeks them out. Cam is an absolute monster at the goal line but that's the only thing he does better than either of the others. He might be able to get away with that shit for another 3-4 years but his body is guaranteed to break down.

Russ is also 4-1 head to head and it's not like Carolina's defense has sucked.

Hard not to love Russ but If you polled all 30 NFL GMs to a man they'd choose Newton.

If the Hawks win this weekend I'm going with little Russ

Russ checked out of a run and into the pass that Kearse caught to beat the Packers in OT last year. I don't know if he checks as much as some but he definitely has the go ahead.

Yes the other 30 GM's. Also the thread topic is BUY OR SELL . Excluding SEA and CAR, the rest of the GM's around the league "buy" Newton.

Ask the 32 NFL head coaches who they want with the ball on a last game drive with their team behind by less than a touchdown- most pick Wilson.

This weekend will go along way in answering the question: Can Newton deliver in a big game against the NFL's best defense? Can Wilson win on the road against the team with the best regular season record?

I still think your premise is wrong. Before this season it would have been close to a clean sweep for Wilson. And while Newton has undoubtedly shown some things this year he's never shown before, Wilson's made significant strides too. Has Newton's 16 game sample against the weakest schedule in the league pushed him ahead of somebody that was far ahead of him coming into the year and had a great year in his own right?

I doubt it.

Most GM's take Wilson, irregardless what happens on Sunday.
 
The other thing is to extrapolate into the future. 10 years from now who had the best career. I don't think it is even a question that Wilson is head and shoulders above so far. His O line is every bit as bad as Luck's. That's why mobility matters.

Luck is the classic 6 foot 5 white pocket guy. Both Cam and Russ are better

I would say that Wilson's lateral quickness is his defining unique skill and ability to make defenders miss will erode at worse rate than Newtons strength or straight line speed. It doesn't seem like Wilson breaks tackles, he simply avoids them.

The model for Newtons long term career is Roethlesberger, even as his athleticism erodes he will still have the raw physique to shed pass rushers and extend plays because he simply won't be able to be brought down easily.

Not sure what Wilsons escapability will look like at age 34 or so, but I imagine that it's at its retire high point now.

So based on all of this I would say Newton is the better play 10 years from now.

The year Cam was drafted number 1 was the year that Luck went back to college. Before Luck stupidly went back to college it was a foregone conclusion that Harbaugh was going to go to Carolina and would draft Luck. That decision has directly shaped a ton of teams for many years. Denver drafted Von Miller at #2 that year, they likely would have chosen Newton at 2, which keeps Manning out of Denver. Indy then either keeps Manning because they can't draft Luck the next year or instead drafts RG3 and so on.

I don't see Wilson's quickness dropping lower than say an Aaron Rodgers level, who's now 32 and still appears to have the mobility to avoid pressure and make plays. And even so, Wilson strikes me as the kind of guy who wouldn't allow something like diminished agility to define what he can accomplish as a QB.

Agree about Cam.

Both will likely require personnel and scheme changes when their athleticism suffers a tangible dropoff.
