Not trying to minimize Bush ...

But we're talking about a WR coach here ...

Granted he has done a great job in recruiting as well as in developing our players at the position ... but the same can be said for the next WR coach if we make a strong hire here.

As long as we're at the top of the conference and nation we're going to have people coming around trying to take our coaches away from us with promotions, etc. It's reality.

We're actually fairly lucky in that we have a good foundation of coaches that I don't feel like we're at risk of losing:

Kwiatkowski - he's Pete's Mickey Andrews

Gregory - I think he's been there and done that and is content being part of a great staff

Bhonapha - he's been with Pete since 2006

Strausser - we can argue how good/bad this is, but he's been with Pete since 2007

Socha - probably as important as anybody on this list outside of Kwiatkowski, he's been with Pete since 2006 and to me the biggest threat to anybody leaving is greater responsibility and/or money ... we readily recognize Socha's value and I don't think he can
add more responsibility with another program ... so we should be in good shape here

We know we'll lose Lake in the next 1-2 years ... that's a given. We're replacing Hamden. Babushka I think is a wild card because he has long-term aspirations that he won't achieve at UW ... but his challenge will be in finding the right place. From a continuity standpoint, it's probably not the worst thing for him to still be here. Paopao I think the jury is still out on ... same with Malloe. Not sure either of them are anywhere close to being in danger of completely moving on unless we say so.

All in all ... it's not THAT bad. We're in a pretty good position with our assistants ... particularly some of our most critical ones.
 
My only hard complaint about losing Hamdan is that we still have Smith. From that standpoint it's bullshit. Also, Pete isn't immune from making shitty hires, so it's not like we are guaranteed to upgrade or even have the same caliber of WR coach as Hamdan.

Hopefully he makes a good hire, and not Pease 2.0.

He did cut bait from Prince at Boise when he came over so maybe there is a little hope to lose Smith but won't be soon enough.

I don't want Busch Hamden anymore. Good recruiter. Coaches receivers to be soft as fuck against good defenses.
 
92-12 Pete knows what the fuck he is doing. Seattle Washington is a much better landing spot then Boise. He will recruit another good coach

The WR's were much improved. The real area he will be missed is recruiting.

Was Hamdan really that good? Or was Pease just really that bad? Pettis is a fucking freak in the air and great at returning punts. I'm not sure either can be coached. And Ross was fucking Ross and as we witnessed, speed kills. We had a lot of short, under-thrown balls by our QB that required improvisation and adjustments that struck me as outside the routes in the playbook this year. So, while Hamdan appeared to be much improved over Pease, how do we know how much was him versus his players? Given only 1 year, I'm not convinced Hamdan was the major factor in the improved WR play, so I'm optimistic.

Sort of. I agree the WR play was much better this year and the gap between Hamdan and Pease looked huge, but if Pease was terrible - as I think he was - then an average or decent coach looks great in comparison. Plus factoring in the unique and substantial talents of Ross and Pettis raises the question: How much of that was solely the effect of coaching? Reminder: Ross didn't play last year.
