Even though a recruiting dead period exists through the end of August, Georgia got a top target on campus this weekend. Napa (Calif.) Top 100 tight end Brock Bowers made the trip across the country on his family's own dime to tour Athens on their own, without any interaction with the Dawgs' coaching staff.
"We got to hang out with Brock Vandergriff and Chaz Chambliss for a little bit," Bowers said. "We had breakfast with them and then we had a campus tour by ourselves. We would talk and Facetime with Coach Hartley as kind of our tour guide. It was good to drive around and cool of him to do that for us and explain everything to us. We got to hang out around Athens for two days and it was good. It was good to talk to them and get to know them."
The 6-foot-3, 225-pound tight end also connected with a couple of current players over the phone and in person.
"I spoke with Ryland Goede for a little bit," Bowers said. "I also texted with JD Daniels, Tre' McKitty, and John Fitzpatrick and saw them around a little bit."
Following that time in Athens, Bowers, the nation's No. 93 prospect, No. 3 tight end, and No. 10 overall recruit in Califonia per the industry-generated 247Sports Composite, says he spent time at the Vandagriff household while Brock Vandagriff was with his grandparents.
"We spent time with his mom, his dad, and his sister's tonight right before we left for Atlanta," Vandagriff said. "It was good to spend time with them and they seem like really good people."
The Bulldogs' coaching staff has honed in on Bowers as their priority at tight end and they reiterated that before he left.
"They said how I was a piece of the puzzle they need and that they want me at Georgia," Bowers said. "It was really important to refresh my memory of Georgia and have that to base off of with my decision."
"I really like the people at Georgia and they are up there," Bowers said. "The recruits I am going in with, just talking with them, they are great. All the coaches are great as well and I love the current players there too. It is the SEC and the players that I am coming in with and the coaches are amazing."
Bowers says he has an idea of which way he is leaning but has another visit at the end of this month.
"It is just kind of Georgia I guess, and Washington, kind of those two," Bowers said. "I have not seen the Washington campus so it would be cool to see them because they throw to the tight ends a lot with how they used Hunter Bryant," Bowers said. "I would like to announce before the season
