- Right side of OL looked pretty damn good especially considering where they were from beginning of year
- LBs are absolutely elite. water is wet
- Browning's accuracy is his strongest attribute, but not sure his deep ball will ever be good. Also got very good at feeling pressure and slipping his way out of the pocket
- Southern Miss' WR was a bigtime stud. NFL ready. Not reading too much into our DBs against that.
- Daniels showed more cutting ability in one reception than Lenius showed the entire year. No excuse for this guy not to be at least all p12 this year
- Easily Mickens' best game. Where the hell was that the past 4 years?

Good stuff.

Daniels will certainly get more PT and he has a higher ceiling than Perkins so I'm hopeful. It was so FS for Sarkisian to burn his RS.

I'm not ready to write off Browning's long ball just yet. Nothing was all that sharp in the passing game last year, from a new / true frosh QB to the OL in pass-pro, to the play / coaching of the WRs.
 
Also, I loved Dissly at TE. He and Sample just collapsed motherfuckers in the Stanford power package. Yes please!!
 
All PAC 12 for Daniels? Does he even have 25 career receptions? He has talent, but he's kind of becoming a doog legend for such little production.
 
We have everything we need to be really fucking good, but the issue will always be taking advantage of our talent. It didn't take a genius to see last year that our offensive gameplans were a fucking nightmare.

We should be a 60/40 run team, with a lot of play action, screens and draws. If we played a simplified offense, we would have won at least 9 last year...

It's very frustrating. Smith should've been fired. Why go in half-measures?
 
I always kept wondering if they know that you can run screens to the halfback instead of the receiver and have a higher success rate.

Daniels has been the Black TE backup the last 2 years, hence, not many catches. He will be the #1 guy this year and has the athleticism/ upside to a strong contender for the Breakout Senior Who Hasn't Done Shit So Far award

Consider the competition re Mickens. Mickens has been the same player all 4 years. No better no worse!

No, it depends on the blocking execution. Id rather have Ross on a well blocked screen than Coleman,Dwash or daniels. WTF J? Who is the halfback you are referring to? Id much rather have a TE screen to Cam Cleeland. But you wouldnt remember.
 
The one thing I take away from watching that game again is that despite some progress on offense, there were still some lingering, frustrating pre-snap penalties. And they're happening in a game where you know you don't even have to get cute to overwhelm the opposing defense.
 
Just watched all the defensive snaps and focused in on the secondary... holy hell Brian Clay fucking sucked. Constantly took bad angles, and when he did he was way too slow to have any hope of making up for it. All the Jimmy Lake coaching in the world wasn't going to make up for his shortfalls. Even if Taylor Rapp underperforms DDY and Pepsi's expectations for him, he'll still be an improvement as a true frosh.

The skill gap between Gardenhire and Jones was very evident. Jones didn't get thrown at much, and when he did get thrown at his coverage was very tight. Gardenhire left too many open windows, especially against Michael Thomas (their stud WR). Jones was handling him just fine, but he fucked us up when Gardenhire was on him. Both big TDs by him were a result of bad Gardenhire coverage and a terrible angle taken by Clay.

Budda was an absolute savage filling in the slot corner role for King who was injured. Takes the right angles and his closing speed kills. Sweatpants boner inducing.

If you count the 2 PI penalties that Daniels drew in the bowl game then the last 4 games of the season he was producing at a rate of 530 receiving yards per season. He also had the best catch rate of any TE in the conference. If they use him at an increased rate relative to the end of last season then he could reach 600 receiving yards which would probably be good enough for all conference honors. I think he has a better than 50-50 shot of at least being honorable mention. His wasted RS was really a shame.

I was a fan of Perkins but for a TE his catch rate was poor and he was a bad blocker which is why Daniels was assigned that role and did a very good job developing as a blocker. We will probably see Daniels take Perkins role and Sample take Daniels role. I expect that TE group to be better than the last years. Factor in Dissly and they will run 3 TE sets bc they have 3 guys who can block as opposed to last year when they didnt have a single guy with TE blocking experience coming into the season.

Regarding the bowl game, their QB was the best QB we faced all year, excluding Adams and his tremendous escapability. Southern Miss QB took hits all game long but was money and threw some darts.

A screen's success rate depends a lot on the blocking execution? You don't say? Maybe if you had half a brain you'd realize that bubble/tunnel screens employ receivers to do the bulk of the blocking and screens out of the backfield use linemen. Guess who blocks better?
