Bourbon recommendations - north of $50 a bottle?

Do any of your bourbon sippin’ doogs have much experience with the real high end stuff, say, north of $50 a bottle? I have my go to labels in the every-day drinking bourbon segment- e.g., Eagle Rare 10 yr old, Elijah Craig (used to be 12 yr old), Buffalo Trace, Evan Williams Single Barrel, etc – but would love to hear any recommendations for any high end bourbons that you guys are in to.

Blanton’s is usually what I buy in the $60 price point but would like to branch out. Pappy is the holy grail, but not achievable unless you have a connection. Elmer T Lee at $40 - $45 is the poor man’s Blanton’s but I just can’t see to find is these days in Seattle.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
 
I'm assuming you mean for a 750 mL bottle?

Buffalo Trace and Crown are my 2 go-to bourbons.

Bulleit and Knob Creek are quite good as well.

Woodford is usually pretty good ... there are some more rare versions of that that can go up a bit in price point that are also quite smooth.

I definitely buy a lot of Buffalo Trace and at $25 a fifth (750 ml) it's hard to beat. I drink my bourbon neat or with just a splash of water if it's above 90 proof. Buffalo Trace drinks very nice neat; Eagle Rare is the same distiller (Blanton's is too) and both are excellent as well. I have a ton of experience with the stuff between $30 and $50 like Bulleit, Knob Creek and your basic Woodford Reserve. Maybe one of the limited Woodford's might be worthy a shot.

I started a Bourbon tasting society a few years back with my buddies...basically, 10 people show up at a friends house each with a different bottle and several hours later we try to determine which product was the winner.

P. S. Crown is Canadian Whiskey.
 
Buffalo trace is a great option. I'm more of a scotch guy myself.

I love Scotch as well but it becomes cost prohibitive sometimes. $45 to $50 is about entry level for single malt, but that kinda coin gets you into some real nice bourbons.
 
I know Crown is Canadian ($75k :wink: ) ... I usually lump all versions of whiskey together ... only drink Crown from Canada, many different types of bourbons, don't really like rye

More on the cheaper end of things, if looking for a decent option to go with a mixer Two Stars isn't too bad. You can normally get a 1.75L at Total Wine and More for about $30-$35.

I've never actually had it, but I've heard from others that they like Four Roses ...
 
1792 and Jefferson's Reserve are great, but I don't recall prices on those. I don't care for basic Jack Daniels but I've had a couple high end JD's that are top-notch.

Yes, I've liked 1792 and it has a bottle that chicks think looks cool. Only have had the baseline Jefferson's and think I got a bad barrel...was kinda musty tasting. Haven't ever tried the single barrel Jack Daniel's before.

Scotch, rye, bourbon, blended, etc. all whiskys. but not all whiskys are bourbon.

I bet you refer to all red wines as cabs too.

Can you recommend to me a bourbon that drinks like a rye?

Crown isn't Bourbon, Did they teach you nothing at Butler Cabin?
 
I like Makers, Bullit, 4 Roses, Blantons. I'm not picky enough to go beyond these on my own dime.

If you are ever in Louisville, go to the historic Seelbach Hilton. The bar has an extensive selection of specialty bourbons.*

Burnside from Portland is pretty dang good. Has some vanilla notes.

I haven't had any decent bourbons from WA state yet. Not that I'm trying but people keep buying that shit for me.
