Big Game Coaches

Boise was rolling before Pete? They were good but they never attained anywhere close to the levels that Pete took them too.

All coaches blow the games but the best ones find ways to win some games as an underdog and make the most of their opportunities when they are favored. You think Dan Hawkins beats Oklahoma? Georgia and Va Tech on the road? Oregon on the road?

Good win for Helfrich beating Arizona and FSU. But we saw how overrated Arizona was at the end of the year and FSU finished the year out of the top 10 in advanced metrics. Beating Michigan St at home is not a great indicator for a team that has been arguably the best in the last 7 seasons.

Maybe I'm wrong and Helfrich will be a great coach who wins championships. Maybe mushrooms will bloom out of my anus too.

Petersen has proven he's a big game coach. Now he just needs to get the program to that level….before the mushrooms bloom out of my ass.
 
Petersen did better than Hawkins, but Hawkins got the Colorado job for a reason. He won over 82% of his games with conference titles his last 4 years at Boise. Hawkins lost 3 conference games in five years. I consider that rolling.
 
Big game coach is kind of cliché. Toppy got down votes, but Don James lost plenty of big games. So has Saban, so has Carroll, etc. Just last year, Urban Meyer lost the Big 10 championship when a win would have gotten Ohio State into the title game. Petersen lost some big games at Boise too, the Nevada and TCU ones being the biggest. I don't really look at it as Helfrich and Oregon choking. They ran into a better, more talented team that peaked at the perfect time.

In regards to Petersen, the jury is fully out. The big wins at Boise are nice, but Boise was rolling before Petersen was head coach and they look to be rolling now that he's gone. They have a winning program and they are typically the most talented team in their league. Petersen's task at UW is so much different that the Boise years are pretty much irrelevant at this point.

The thing I got from last night was that UW is so fucking far from being a championship team. You look at Ezekial and compare him to our backs. Their OL to the UW OL. Any of their 3 QB's compared to ours. Even Kikaha, one of our best players, looks kind of shitty compared to Bosa. UW sucks in every way compared to Ohio State, from the commitment to winning, to the coaching, to the talent.

Welcome to my last 20 years. 1994 the Huskies beat up the Buckeyes and the Canes. Physically pounded them. Since that time we have been bitch slapped and beaten by every great program we have played. Even in 200 we had to trick whip Miami at home and hold on as they ran it down our throat. Notre Dame, Nebraska, Ohio State, Oklahoma and the rest just punked our ass. Oh and 65-7. Then the Pac10/12 started in on us.

James took a weak ass program that lost to Bama 50-0 his first year to a stand off against
Bama his fourth year. Bryant called it the biggest improvement he had ever seen in a team.

We should have won the NC in '94 and if we'd had DJ and no sanctions, we probably would've. That team was loaded—but we lost early to USC because we were not prepared. Then we lost to the Ducks and Lambo should have been put out of his misery on the 50 after that game. Once we lost that game, we gave up.

But we were fucking good and physical. It'll take a while, but Pete is a good coach. I'm not saying we're definitely going to get there, but I think downplaying Pete's accomplishments at Boise isn't really worthwhile. Those teams were physical and disciplined and our team under Sark was anything but that.

We wanted change, we've got it and now we have to LIPO. I'm with @HeretoBeatmyChest‌ fully. This year doesn't change shit.

Everything I hear (INSIDE SORE-CESS!) say we didn't play to strengths and played the wrong players on purpose. It was to show these mentally weak POS'es that the system no longer bends to performers. Performers perform all the time or they GTFO.

You think Cyler Miles, Troy Williams or Jeff Lindquist want to become Kellen Moore-level students of the game? Fuck no they don't.

KJCS will start next year and he's going to flush a ton of the roster...

Where that gets us, we will see but LIPO.

If true, I feel a little better. I hope it's not an excuse for stubborn/bad coaching. Having Miles or any of the other QB's sit in the pocket and go through multiple reads isn't the best way to use them. I don't think someone needs to put on a headset to recognize that. Same with having John Ross stay outside at WR instead of moving your best and most explosive player around.

I mean, you never fucking know. It's not like I'm talking to the coaches and they're telling me this. However, this is consistently the word I've gotten. 'We aren't tailoring the system to players this year, players are going to learn how to play in our system and we'll see who can step the F up'.

Doog-gasm? Perhaps. Even if it's true, it may not mean much.

But if you think about it, it's hard to really interpret this season any other way. Pete isn't going to come out and take shots at his own players, but he said as much many times. It's about effort. He doesn't believe in 'gamers'. Etc.

All I've heard is they think most players on the roster are lazy/soft POS'es.

We'll see.

I think you'd see that the BSU defense improved significantly from Hawkins to Petersen.
 
Sure would be nice if my huskies got good. Im tired of pretending like I was around the last time we did anything. We can only get lucky so many times before living in the past that I wasnt even a part of comes back to bite me in the ass
