Bet.com did an analysis of 2023 vs 1991 UW if they played

23 Dawgs would score 3 points max on the 91 D. 30 years from now Penix, and Udunze will be the two names I'll be able to recall.

91 had a freshman Nap, M. Bailey, Beno, Brunell, Carson's Dad, Lincoln Kennedy, Aaron Pierce, Billy Jo. On D, they had a guy named Tommie "Hitman" Smith, Walter Bailey, Emptman, Donald Jones, Chico Fraley Collins, Mason, Farr, Fields, Pahukoa, Hall, and Hoffman. STACKED!!!

Im not sure how many of our current players on offense would survive that matchup. Maybe our receiving corpse would hold up?

Are they playing under 1991 rules, or 2023 rules? Neck rings and giant shoulder pads? DJ (ILTCHDJ) would ground assault, burn clock and keep it out of Mike’s hands. Low-scoring (at least for todays game)…

91’ squad would put insane pressure on Penix with the push up the middle and heat from the edge. Elite LB’s and secondary would be too much.

Hobart and Co would put a hurting on the defense. Too much Mario, Orlando McKay, Bruener and Beno. Naploleon would rip a 50 yarder before falling down.

91 defense was unreal and they win that game rather easily but you guys are underestimating a. how good Penix is at getting the ball out b. how great these receivers are c. How much the rules have changed in favor of offenses. 2023 would score some points. Unless we’re playing with 1991 rules and refs.

I agree. I think that this year's defense is so bad that the 91 offense would keep Penix off the field, though. 91 team would run for 300+ yards.

The 91 offense was overshadowed but it was the best in school history at the time

True. But that was in the defense and special teams era. That offense was good compared to what came before (not after).

It’s like comparing Jordan’s Bulls to today’s top teams, in an era of three point dependence, wide spacing, and stricter whistles.

Zone read and RPO had not been invented in 1991, and that defense's heads would be spinning. Any team that put that many bodies in the box would be absolutely raped by a modern offense.

The '91 team had better personnel at 81% of positions, but the game has evolved and the '23 team would roll.

So does this mean Dawgs roll on Roll Tide in a rematch?

I always hate these comparisons. The game and the athletes have evolved a lot since then.

The steroids haven’t.

Advantage 91 in a raging bloodbath.

A lot of the front on offense could play today

No doubt in my mind 91 would boatrace 23.

Drop 8, 10 in the box, doesn’t matter. Absolute savages on defense. Relentless.

Roadgraders would keep the ball out of Penix’ hand
