I'm not a big Skynyrd guy, but Simple Man is a great song and probably my favorite one by them. Not sure it's actually the best riff, but I like it the most of the songs on this list so it gets my vote.

Gary Glitter the pedo?
Yeah, but still the greatest jock jam of all time and it's not really close.
I, for one, can no longer listen to R Kelly while making babies because of his pedophilia. Should be the same rule for Gary Glitter. Some people should not receive our adulation.
I don't listen to music while baby making. Never been my thing.
I've never bought a Gary Glitter LP or CD and have no plans to do so. I just think it was a great song.
I also like to watch the movie Chinatown from time to time.

The authors would have also accepted best synth riff of 1977
It's also primarily a synthesizer riff, boss.

Synths in a guitar pole? Christ.

The 'riff' is guitar.
The solos are synth.
HTH
No it's fucking not. I asked SkyNet

AI OverviewLearn moreThe opening riff of Edgar Winter's "Frankenstein" is played on a synthesizer, specifically an ARP 2600. Here's a more detailed breakdown:
  • Instrument: Edgar Winter, known for his pioneering work with synthesizers, played the iconic riff on his ARP 2600.
  • Live Performances: Winter would often strap a keyboard instrument around his neck, allowing him to move around on stage and interact with the audience, similar to guitar players.
  • Innovation: Winter's group was known for its innovation, with Winter inventing the keyboard body strap early in his career.
  • Other instruments: While the ARP 2600 is the main instrument for the opening riff, other instruments like guitar and bass were also used in the song.
  • Guitar solo: Rick Derringer did some excellent guitar work on this track, too
  • Song Origin: The song was originally an instrumental jam track that became a hit.

BTO was the shit in 73, and brings back fond memories of a 13 y.o. Fish trying to make moves and dance with the hot chicks at the jr. high sock hop, nervously sweating, reeking of my old man’s Old Spice and Vitalis…good tims…

It’s the pedo song but I couldn’t stomach voting for a guy who faced a firing squad.

I played Rock and roll part 2 on guitar one time at a party and everybody chanted hey when the time presented itself and it was pretty fun. CSB

If if makes you feel better, Gerry Shaphard, the guitar player on the track wasn't a pedo to the best of my knowledge.
