The album that got me beyond the “top 40” radio Stones...I could put Sway(e) on a loop, and be happy...Who’s Next is right there, along with Every Picture...the entire list is my college soundtrack
I bought Made In The Shade (my 1st Stones album) when it came out as a comp contract filler...some hits, some unknown (to me), because I didn’t want to shell out for a double album “greatest hits”...it got me Happy, Bitch, and Rip This Joint, three of my faves to this day.The album that got me beyond the “top 40” radio Stones...I could put Sway(e) on a loop, and be happy...Who’s Next is right there, along with Every Picture...the entire list is my college soundtrack
I had kind of a strange journey with the Stones growing up. They first came into my consciousness in 1989 with the big "comeback" tour for Steel Wheels. This was the first Stones album I purchased (on cassette and some shitty So Cal Sam Goody mall shoppe). From there I bought the live 1981 tour album which my mom said would be good looking at the songs. I didn't know at the time that they sucked live by then. By the early part of HS I had the Big Hits, High Tide and Green Grass mid 60's singles collection and Tattoo You. It was really until right before college when I bought Let it Bleed, where I realized what this band was all about. Sticky Fingers really blew the doors wide open for me with Dead Flowers and Can't You Hear Me Knocking?
Probably the best complete album in history
Ah fuck. I didnt read to the bottom. Allman Brothers at Fillmore East would get my vote. Oh well.
I try to vote for the "best" albums by given bands. IV is arguably their best. I always skip Misty Mtn and Stairway. I mean, Stairway is a great musical recording but I can't stand the lyrics.
If I'm looking at a stack of cds and need to pick one (or two), I'll grab the Allman Brothers double live masterpiece over LZ IV every time.

Duane Allman might be the best pure jam / noodling guitarist ever.

A jr high teacher I had let us bring music one day a week. I brought in Zep IV, and everybody complained when he put it on side 2...I still remember him smiling and saying “side 2 is where the good stuff is”...CSB

Duane is awesome, but he is no Jerry.

True. His family was better a wood chopping.
