His regular season stats are borderline for a HOF case (though pretty comparable to Earl Campbell, who was obviously comparable stylistically). His playoff stats are really good. He also notoriously hated the media, who makes the selections. Is his playoff performance enough to overcome the media's hatred of him?

I think no, but RB's should be judged a little differently because of their shorter careers.

Lynch's rankings on the all-time list:

Rushing Yards = 36th

Individuals ahead of him not in HOF: Tomlinson (guaranteed 1st ballot when eligible), Edgerrin James, Frank Gore (active), Fred Taylor, AP (active), Steven Jackson, Corey Dillon, Warrick Dunn, Ricky Watters, Jamal Lewis, Thomas Jones, Tiki Barber, Eddie George, OJ Anderson, Ricky Williams, Clinton Portis, Shaun Alexander, Chris Johnson, and Ahmen Green

Playoff Rushing Yards = 8th

Only person ahead of him not currently in the HOF is Terrell Davis

Rushing TDs = 24th

Individuals ahead of him not in HOF: LT, Shaun Alexander, AP, Priest Holmes, Corey Dillon, OJ Anderson, Edgerrin James, Ricky Watters, Pete Johnson, Clinton Portis

I'm surprised that some of the names on the list above aren't in the HOF. But it also goes to show how much work needs to be done to get into the HOF. Lynch is in the upper reaches of RBs to play the game. But he's probably just a cut below being a HOFer.

I'd normally say that if Terrell Davis gets in, so does Marshawn. But TD has 2 rings, so it's not really a valid comparison.

i think of Lynch as kinda being the football equivalent of Sandy Koufax

He has two one rings

His two runs should be in the Hall of Fame

I'd vote yes

Bevell hands it off to him at the 1 and it's a slam dunk IMO.

Bevell probably cost him his bid. He could milk 3-4 shit years at the end of his career and jump up the all-time lists, but what good would that do? He's probably the last true workhorse RB (along with AP) that the NFL will have in the new era of by committee approach.

Koufax is a HOF

Yes, I know

I agree, and like, your Koufax comp. Why, then, is Beast not a HOF?

Koufax was a 7 time all-star, 4 time WS champ, a league MVP, and a 3 time Cy Young award winner back when there was only 1 Cy Young winner for all of MLB. In those 3 years, he led all of MLB in wins, strikeouts and ERA.

Lynch has been a 5 time pro bowler, 1st team All-Pro once, 2nd team All-Pro once and 1 time NFL champ. Never has he led the NFL in rushing yards in a season.

Comparing the 2 is FS. Lynch was one hell of a RB. Koufax was flat out dominant.

Better than Sammy Davis Jr?

His legacy may be determined by what the Hawks are able (or not able) to do without him in the next couple of years.

These two runs are as dominant as anything Koufax ever did, so to call the comparison fucking stupid is fucking stupid

I think Gayle Sayers is the football Koufax

Or Sanders. Ten years, retires at the top, possibly the greatest to ever play rb.

Yeah but Sanders retired somewhat voluntarily (like Lynch). Koufax retired because of his health, which is more comparable to Sayers to me. Koufax is the youngest ever inductee into the baseball HOF, Sayers is the youngest ever inductee into the NFL HOF. But I definitely agree Sanders > Sayers. Either way, Lynch isn't at that level. Sanders, Sayers and Koufax were all surefire hall of famers. Lynch is a guy who may or may not get in.
