My first impression is a number of you have not watched ASU play this year or realize we have beat you a number of times in Seattle, even in the rain with Ericson. ASU has a young defense, more first year starters and true freshman than anyone in the league. The Devils have improved since UCLA on defense a good deal which was also our 2nd string QB's first start, with Kelly going down. How would you do with a second string QB with his first game being UCLA, he did throw for over 600 yards in a loss. You can't run when you get down big early. Berc has played lights out since then, but Kelly will be able to go by the game next week. The real questions is who will play for ASU? Kelly is from Idaho and Strong from Philly, the rain will not be a factor since we can run the ball and have a balanced attack. Unless still hurt, it will be Kelly. Wilcox loaded the box to stop the run and dared Berc to throw after what happened to the Huskies in Tempe last year. It failed, with Berc throwing for 500 yards and no turn overs. This will be a battle, especially against Washington's good defensive front, but the Huskies will struggle in the secondary. Our O-line is superior to the Ducks and kept the QB standing against USC and Stanford, two teams that are good on defense. Very difficult game on the road for ASU, but to think you are not going to have a tough time is unrealistic.

It's not overlooking UW's deficiencies. We aren't good. We aren't terrible either. It's a tough, but winnable game. Do you watch any football other than UW games? Have you watched ASU this season? Could you name 3 players on ASU without looking it up?

Stanford suffered its worst lost of the season against ASU by far when comparing the Irish and USC loses. Hogan did not score a touchdown until far in the second half and it was not that close. ASU's most complete game with the defense showing a lot of growth. The Dawgs could not get it done at home with the Trees and looking at the performance against the Ducks, the two teams appear to be going in opposite directions right now. ASU had no injuries coming out of Saturday but it appears the Huskies have a number, especially on the offense?

How would you do with a second third string QB with his first game being UCLA Hawaii, he did throw for over 600 yards in a moral loss. You can't run when you get down big early at all.

The Dawgs could not get it done at home with the Trees and looking at the performance against the Ducks, the two teams appear to be going in opposite directions right now. You had a bye week to prep for your revenge game against Stanford, the team that beat you twice last year.

Stanford had a bye week before us and worked on defending the fake punt 20 times a day for 2 weeks.

Also, your last statement is probably a good thing for us.

in comparison to the rest of the pac-12 we aren't. we are mediocre, just like everyone in the conference sans Oregon, and maybe a couple other teams.

 
Very tough road game for ASU. I though a few weeks ago these were similar teams, good offense/bad defense vs good defense/bad offense. Watching the Huskies this year it does seem like a team that is struggling a little with it's identity. I have no idea how good they really are which I guess is normal with a first year coach.

As of today Kelly is not totally healthy but improving daily. If he starts who knows what you get after not playing for 6 weeks. Peterson is a very good game coach, one of the best, talent is relatively close. You probably see a close game into the fourth quarter. Wouldn't read too much into the debacle at Oregon. We had one of those this year and have been much better since

Was reading some of the comments on former Boise coaches. Dirk Koetter I thought was a good football coach. He knew football but one his big problems was he brought too many assistants with him from BSU. The defensive staff and recruiting coordinator (running backs coach) were terrible. By the time he figured it out and got new blood in there it was too late. Do know that Peterson is loyal to is staff but don't know if that is an issue. Do think long term the hire was very good. Much better than Mora.

If you want to cite UW-Stanford from three weeks ago then can we cite ASU losing by 35 at home to a team that Oregon plungered and barely beat Cal?

UW will be vulnerable to any team with a high powered offense, as the defense is its strength and it won't be able to come back from deficits. I think ASU has the 2nd best offense in the league but theres a reason the spread is only 2.5. ASU has had no run game without Kelly as Foster is not an every down between the tackles back. ASU's OL has improved statistically but its certainly not close to what Oregon had the past two weeks. The previous two weeks Oregon was playing a 3rd string guy at LT and was missing another starter.

UW's DL will have the advantage against ASU's OL because they don't have AA's like Grasu and Fisher that can slow Shelton and Kikaha. ASU will face the best pass rush its seen all year. Marcus Peters will guard Strong but I do give ASU's receivers the advantage in the pass game.

UW's offense will be uncertain until game time. Not sure who the QB will be or if the regular backs will play. UW's plan will be to get 7-10 points off turnovers, have John Ross account for a TD and have the offense account for another 7-10 points.

Also I think the ASU qb uncertainty is an advantage for UW. I'd almost prefer to see Kelly play because he might be rusty and not ready for UW's front 7.

With the pac-12 being a cluster fuck, these games are all about match ups and who can exploit what. Cal was a great matchup for UW because UW's front could dominate them and Cal does not have a good defense. Oregon had the QB and OL to dominate UW's major strength. ASU's OL looks decent so who knows. Its a matchup UW's DL definitely needs to win. If they don't, they have about a 5% chance of winning the game. I do think it will be a close game as ASU does not have the caliber of QB, RB or defense that Oregon has.

I think ASU is a better team and Graham is doing a really nice job. That being said I think he's a bible thumping scumbag and someone should shove his special headset up his pooper.

Everything changes week to week. A few weeks ago, ASU had a very good offense and no defense. UCLA did whatever they wanted on offense and ASU had no answer. The defense was bad against USC too. Now it seems like things are clicking and they are coming off an impressive win over Stanford where they only gave up 10 points. I would caution against thinking the rest of the season will go that way.

A few weeks ago, many (Damone included) picked UW to lose to Cal. Cal had a great offense that had scored 45+ in 3 straight Pac 12 games. UW played well and held Cal to 7. The next week the defense gets absolutely shredded by Oregon.

Same thing goes for the rest of the Pac 12. Arizona went from beating Oregon to losing to USC at home. UCLA went from blowing out ASU to losing to Utah, blown out by Oregon, and having a nail biter against Cal. Utah lost to WSU at home. It's been a whacky season.
 
First off. Sorry about the injuries. We have been there done that. I believe ASU and UW are two very similar teams right now and I anticipate this will be a very tough game for our young defense on the road. Berco was a blessing against USC and Stanford because he is a pocket passer and his ability to get the ball to our receivers without turning the ball over has allowed us to extend drives and protect our weakness (inexperienced defense). Taylor Kelly is a dual threat but the hurry up - read option sort of fizzled out against bigger teams (see Furd and ND last year) who could contain it.. Don't sleep on our offense though. We did put up 26 on one of the best defenses in the country. I doubt Kelly starts because he barely practiced last week and our offense has been fine in his absence. I'm calling this one a toss up..
 
This bored seems to have more ASU poasters than any other opposing fanbase (sans Oregon).

Really tough game to call. ASU is a more complete team, but we have the home field advantage.

I will say this - this is a game that Petersen needs to win. He has an experienced roster, and ASU lost a ton of talent from last season (mostly on defense). Graham appears to be reloading quite well, but Petersen needs to beat these less experienced teams with this veteran roster if I'm going to have faith in him these next few seasons.

Yeah yeah I know, Sark culture and all that nonsense. But if we can't beat ASU this season, at home, with Kikaha, Shelton, Thompson, and Peters in the lineup....we sure as shit aren't winning in Tempe next season,
 
I find it humorus that you bring up UCLA when you failed at home against the same Stanford team that has a O-line about as good as ASU, but an overall worst offense with a number of issues from running back to recievers. ASU is at least in the top three in the conference and to say our QB is a big down grade from Mariotta is dreaming. Kelly before the injury was top ten and Berc is light years better than anything on your roster having thrown for over 1400 yards against three ranked teams in his first starting role. Stanford came in the #1 defense in the country but Husky fans still like to think you play defense at the same level or higher? The ONLY advantage for the purple team in this game is home field. New system and first year coaches , players that are injured or not bought into the system, and you have just lost badly to Oregon. Where is the progress for this team and what decent team have you people beat so far? ASU is a veteran team on offense with a very good back in Foster that I see nothing that compares with his ability. Strong may be the best WR in the country. At least the Devils can point to defensive improvement on the road and at home with a young defense recently. This board on the other hand is in semi-melt down and confidence is in short supply but bluff is every where.

I've watched all the UW games. 4 of them in person.

Late last night I watched oregon. Roth the benefit of 24 hours of perfective and a fast forward button.

If you think don't think UW has serious issues in serval areas, I ask, do you watch UW games.

It's possible UW beats asu. That's why they play. Petersen could figure some stuff out. But they need to make some changes to win.
