Are we required to play 5 Offensive Lineman?

I am not too familiar with the intricacies of legal formations. But based on the transfer priorities looks Like Fisch may be planning on running multiple RBs in formation.

Could we see the offensive version of Kwiatkoski Defense? With 2 Down lineman, 2 Tight ends, 6 WR/RB and 1 QB on the field at once? It's what our roster is built for.

You don't need 5 OL but it's the most advantageous to have 5 OL. A legal formation will have 2 ends on the LOS and 4 players in the backfield be eligible for a pass (includes a QB). You can always have less than 4 in the backfield but only the two on the outside at the LOS are eligible to catch a pass.
If you were to run an offense with 4 OL, one of the other position players would be required to be a blocker and cannot move downfield on a throw. Therefore, it's advantageous to have 5 OL since you have 5 dedicated blockers and 6 dedicated skill positions.

Interesting. Sounds like we should expect a lot of run plays an passes behind the line of scrimmage. Makes sense we got more running backs then wide recievers. Could be a hybrid of what Oregon has been running and the triple option.

We have 11 OL on the roster. It’s not like we didn’t know we were going to lose a lot off the line this off-season. Parker is a huge loss. Everyone else only had one year left and/or was mediocre anyway. Whatever.
Body wise we pick up 2-3 OL in spring portal and recruit 4-5 for 2025 and we are fine. Skill wise? Who knows we will probably suck in 2024 hopefully can be seasoned and ready in 2025.

youre right but It’s fun to pretend we won’t be able to field a line. It’ll happen one way or another.
stalin nailed it though with wondering what the single season record for sacks is. It’s going to be like a sorority house at wazzu - gapping holes everywhere. Hopefully the 5 new RBs we? picked up can block. Lots of quick slants and bubble screens. 😆.

This is long but uses maff to pretty much say what I’ve been saying all along - we’re not getting a quality line in the spring portal.
really wish we could steal a guy from UM. If chippy leaves maybe we could steal a starter quality guy or two there.

Not sure there was much math there but the conclusion is there are some good players in the spring portal but not that many.
But how many teams coming off a conference title and national championship appearance have ever been bidding for players with 10-15 open roster spots?
UW will be a strong contender for whatever handful of proven starters are in the portal. And maybe will be able to “tamper” a few kids in to entering that otherwise would have.

I know you said you've retired from the gif game. But any chance you could pull a Larry Holmes and impose the Hardcore Husky mascot face stop the wildcat for this gif? :)
