Like its even an option

Charlie don't surf

You could do a pole based on the surfing related quotes alone.

This film is The Godfather of war films in terms of great quotes. Full Metal Jacket is a ways behind.

"We train young men to drop fire on people, but their commanders won't allow them to write "fuck" on their airplanes because it's obscene!"

The message played from the choppers about the stolen surf board... "It was a good board. You know how hard it is to find a board you like." The gross misallocation of military resources made me laugh.

The scene with the choppers looking for the missing board is only in the uncut, redux version which is like 4 hrs long.

They lined us all up in front of a hundred yards of prime rib -magnificent meat, beautifully marbled.. Then they started throwing it in these big cauldrons, all of it -- boiling. I looked in, an' it was turning gray.

Either:

"Someday this war is gonna end" (in a deep, mournful tone)

Or

"Charlie don't surf"

Either way Robert Duvall owns that movie and I say so with all due respect as it's one of my favorites.

I thought the long director cut was interesting, but if they had released that in 1979, the film would have plummeted. Still, you see more character development. Even so, it is still a long movie with the original, and never really lets you rest. When I saw it the first time, I was underage in an R rated movie, the old Town Theatre downtown. Some of the really deep stuff in the end of the movie I didn't understand then, but do now more.

“The horror! The horror!” - Joseph Conrad

I read Heart of Darkness for HS English, as a junior I think, and it didn't click with me at all. It was one of those reads where I had to force it and it was all mechanical...nothing really sticking and I remember pulling off only a shaky B or C on the test. The funny thing was that I had already seen the movie and, even after reading the book and taking the test, didn't realize it was the same story. The teacher didn't tell us until after. Guess they we're both a little over my head at that age.

I wish I could poast a pic of me in my Col. Kilgore, black Stetson calvary hat, but so far as I can tell, @89ute and @AZDuck are the only guys here the poast personal pics and/or ones of family members.
