Anti-Penix Reaction on Draft Night Was Over the Top

It has nothing to do with Penix. He's worth the 8th pick. Shit poast/article.
 
it has more to do with the Falcons then Penix but he is part of it because people are unfairly obsessing over his age. If he was 21 like JJ, the negativity would be gone.

If Cousins plays out his contract, Penix's rookie deal will be over and he'll be 28.
 
I think penix will be fine at the NFL level if he can stay healthy.
it’s a dumb pick in that you just gave Cousins a boatload(albeit front ended) that means Penix won’t take a meaningful snap until he’s like 26.
8 seems high but it’s all projection anyway. I wouldn’t have drafted him above 15 and I wouldn’t have taken Nix in the first round but WTFDIK

somewhat true, but I think critics are more pointing to his injuries at Indiana
 
His age shouldn't matter. QB's can play until 40 with how protected they are these days. Penix has 15 years ahead of him.
 
I think the hate was more on Atlanta than Penix. Had Atlanta not signed Cousins, then great pick. But Cousins was signed to $100m guaranteed and is 35, so still 3-4 quality years left. When the Packers drafted Love, it was late in the first rd, and the Packers were in initial trading talks on Rodgers.

I think Penix will be the best QB in this draft, but I think Atlanta has other immediate needs that were needed. If this was going to be a sit a year type of deal, then fine. But Atlanta used a top 10 pick on a QB who may not start until the 2028 season. During that time, Atlanta will be paying Penix each year more than the Steelers are paying Fields and Wilson combined I believe.

The age thing is overblown to me yeah it's just kind of an odd move for a QB like him. The sit behind the veteran and learn thing seems more for like a Jack Lockner type or maybe Maye/McCarthy who needs more refinement. Penix is the most "pro ready" of the QBs to me and it's mostly just about if he can stay healthy. I'm actually disappointed I feel like we're not gonna get to see him play more, sooner.
 
No wonder this site gets a total of like 7$ from all the duck fans here.

will be chinteresting to see if cousins can even walk after the achilles. also interested to see if rodgers can walk, that metlife turf just itchin for another chance at his achilles.
