Virtually everything the left touches turns to shit.

The statistics are staggering.

Our military is in a dangerous decline and this is the reason why
The numbers in this new report on our military are jarring

"The Report of the National Independent Panel on Military Service and Readiness" is an urgent warning about creeping politicization at the Pentagon and its corrosive impact on America’s national defense. As the report details, the Biden administration’s whole-of-government embrace of woke politics is becoming a dangerous distraction for servicemen and women who signed up to protect and defend, not virtue-signal.

The top-line statistics compiled in the report are jarring.

Last year, the Army missed its recruiting goal by 25 percent.[/b] They expect this year to be even worse. The Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps began the new fiscal year in October 50 percent below[/b] their normal recruiting numbers. Public confidence in the military is falling precipitously, and even military families – from which most recruits come – are less likely to recommend military life.

What explains the decline? According to a November poll, the most common explanations included "military leadership becoming overly politicized" and "so-called ‘woke’ practices undermining military effectiveness." Another survey found that 65 percent of active-duty servicemen and women are concerned about politicization, including the woke training programs and equity-minded reduced physical fitness standards.

Troop retention rates are falling, too, and for the same reasons. As the report notes, "the perception that non-warfighting missions are distracting senior military leadership may alienate experienced, skilled and knowledgeable warfighters, incentivizing their early departure[.]"

I look at military spending the same way I look at education funding.

The money is there, but no one seems to be capable of forward thought budgeting.

You have only a handful of big defense contractors making mountains of money regardless of whether or not projects come to fruition and defunct/obsolete projects that continue to pull funding due to the jobs they produce in key congressional districts.

There’s so much waste and graft at the administrative level due to corruption back in the Beltway it seems impossible to streamline and focus funding on common sense impact projects.

In essence we still use 1960s processes to approve and fund our military. It seems like an insurmountable task to course correct on our budgetary processes at this point, but there are some things we can do that SHOULD be bipartisan to help make sure more of the money flows in the right direction.

The problem is most of the corruption lies in the House and they’re the people that control the spending.

17-18 year old kids answered “military leadership becoming overly politicized"

Ok!

I’ll play. 18yo are the key recruitment demo for military service. Why wouldn’t their feedback on military enrollment be germane?

Imagine our cheery band of “thinkers” considering a labor shortage in the civilian economy as JUST PERHAPS a part of the equation.

Want soldiers? Pay ‘em.

It wasn’t our decision to raise the MW to 20.00/hr and then spend ourselves into 9% inflation.

GI Bill still pays for college, and these days that’s a lot of money, tax free. Two years active duty gets 80% of all tuition handled by Uncle Sam. That’s pretty damn good.

You can argue with the market or meet it. It’s a good time to be a job seeker and most workers retain the freedom to change jobs easily. What’s the minimum commitment required by the Armed Services, by contrast?

2 years active and then some kind of reservist duty following, IIRC.

MS is a good deal, provided you aren’t being sent to a place like Iraq, Ukraine or Afghanistan to fight in some war for corrupt politicians and their defense contractor donor base.

The private sector you can change jobs whenever the fuck you’d want. Those entering the workforce now seem to treat it as some kind of sport tbh. I try not to hire anyone I feel may be a flight risk within 24mo.

26yo female with no family in the region and a boyfriend who works in tech? No thanks.

The military has always been a jobs program to some degree. It can’t realistically be an at will employer though. So when the demand for workers is high it has trouble finding and retaining them.

Whining about “wokeness” is still just whining.

Fuck off. The dipshits you vote for have done this. You are the problem. Just own it. And STFU.

Fuck off. You can type all of the nonsense BS you want. No one is buying what you’re shoveling.

Dazzler.

I don’t think I was ever whining about anything, but let’s assume the recent “wokeness” of the military is a flashpoint issue for some on the board here, or with a percentage of potential enrollees…

Do you have data points that suggest this recent cultural policy pivot has been a net positive for enrollment?

Are you telling me we’d be even worse off with military recruitment if we didn’t have transgender awareness week as part of basic training?

Or are you just saying that, given the current job market, a two year salaried commitment to active duty that gets the vast majority of your college tuition paid for just isn’t good enough for the kids these days, and we need to re-think what we comp our recruits.

Because while I’m willing to entertain a discussion on the latter, the former is fucking stupid.

There is a lot of bullshit people put up with in large employer organizations if the pay and benefits are right. The Armed Forces have to do more when people have perceived alternatives. They aren’t the only employers that offer pay and benefits.

A kid can go to work at Dicks and get some tuition assistance. He can also quit instantly in favor of a better job.

When the civilian opportunities are there, or perceived to be, military recruitment will struggle. When civilian opportunities are few, sitting through some lecture on inclusiveness just isn’t a big deal. You just sleep with your eyes open and wait it out.

And that’s not to ignore the fact that your civilian employer may also have some woke nonsense for you to pretend to care about.

Your thinking like a patriotic American male. None of these apply to the dazzler. The US military used to reward intelligence, competence, meritocracy and leadership. Now those are punished unless you redefine the terms. What is rewarded is obedience to wokeness. And if you are a white male, even that won't be enough. After the Afghanistan debacle, the military cashiered a major who spoke the truth about the exit. He pointed out that an ordinary officer would be punished if a soldier died in an accident under their command. No senior officer was punished for the Afghanistan disaster nor for Benghazi. When your CIC is a dementia patient that is bought and paid for by the chicoms and won't protect our borders and you and all your commanders and dem politicians and the RINOs pretend otherwise why would you join up to "defend your country"?
