When you start your rant like this, when there are cable news hosts saying Trump removed tariffs on these products for China, it kind of sets that tone.
“Tariffs are a tax on consumers” says every dipshit Leftist. Meanwhile, apparently other countries having lopsided tariffs on US imports isn’t a tax on their citizens. Check out how many US-made cars you see in EU countries next time you’re there. Consumers aren’t “taxed” if they don’t buy the tariffed products.

The whole point is that if incoming products or materials become more expensive for the importer then it pressures consumers to choose domestic products in lieu.

US manufacturing tariffs hurts the chicoms and Euros. High tariffs on US agricultural products hurt the chicoms and Euro producers. Pretty easy really.

Obviously nothing can be done. Toss in the car manufacturing moving back to the US and other manufacturers announcing big US expansions. The issue with iPhones and other labor intensive consumer electronics isn't to get the manufacturing back into the US it is to get it out of China. HTH.
