Has there ever been even a two-time MVP in the NHL, NFL, or NBA that hadn’t made at least the championship game/round of their respective leagues at that point of their careers. Voters probably did Jackson a favor with Allen winning. Three MVPs and not even a Super Bowl appearance is a rough look. Career playoff stats are embarrassing for a guy with his talent, and his record is 3-5. Yes, it’s a regular season award, but his legacy is becoming one of a playoff choker after MVP seasons, and playoff success is how the all-time greats are measured.
Reggie Jackson was Mr. October for his World Series exploits with tens of millions watching on TV in games called by Hall of Fame announcers.
Lamar Jackson is Mr. October for putting up legendary stats against the Cincinnati Bengals in the 1pm Eastern TV slot seen by a fraction of the country and Charles Davis as the analyst.
The Ravens simply have to make a Super Bowl soon and even lose it, or Jackson stats looking like the biggest stat stuffer in history. He’s already taking over for Charles Barkley and Karl Malone as MVPs who couldn’t win the title … at least those guys played in the championship round.
