It's pretty hard to find codeine, dude. Usually don't have gallons of the stuff laying around, so dipping in a little small amount will go further than drinking the small amount would. It also has different effects when smoked.
It's hard to get now. When I was in college, you could on to the health center, say you had a bad cough that was making it hard to sleep and they wrote a prescription up. You could put it on your bill too, so you didn't even have to pay on the spot if you were broke.
