A real laffer from the CEO today

Teq, I originally dismissed your analysis bc of Browning's performance in the spring game. He may have been playing with the 2s and 3s against the #1 offense though. But you may be onto something.

Goff made a huge leap from year 1 to 2. His QBR went from 50 to 75. Even Sefo's went from 54 to 60. Miles' was a fucking 49! Fuck, if we had Sefo last year and a 60 QBR we might be 11-3. Price's was a 66 in 2013.

Playing Browning this year will potentially give us a huge benefit in 2016. And look at the schedule…after Boise there are three reasonable games to get him some experience… Sac St, Utah St, Cal.

The eye test led us all to know that Miles was a fucking disaster. The numbers you are showing backs that up big time. Sefo was much improved last year but he also probably was one of the worst 3-4 QBs in the conference last year. And when you think about it in those terms, that really paints how fucking terrible Miles was.

Throwing Browning in against Boise could be a bit of a challenge ... but it also provides the opportunity for Lindy to prove whether he has it or not. Win (or at minimum be competitive) against Boise and he lays claim to the job for a bit. Lose badly and you give a soft landing for Browning against Sac St leading into the conference season.
 
Brad Kaaya's numbers as a true frosh at Miami are a better goal. His effeciency numbers I believe were top25 nationally, and his team wasn't complete shit like Goff, and he played a tuff schedule, and he didn't enroll until fall, and his mom is Felicia from Friday.

My thoughts exactly. Lindy gets Boise to prove he belongs. If he chokes there, take off that shirt Browning.

Everyone agrees Goff made a quantum leap between his freshman and sophomore seasons. What's missing is the evidence that he wouldn't have been just as good coming off a redshirt season. Lots of QBs flourish as redshirt freshmen; Manziel, Mariota and Winston come to mind. There must be some reason why most QBs get redshirted.

There is. It's an upperclassman QB who is better.
 
With the prevalence of passing offenses in high school (and Browning did throw the ball just a bit there) and the 7 on 7 passing leagues/camps that are in place, QBs are far better positioned to come in and contribute early compared to what they were previously. It's not for every QB ... but if the QB is a good one, they have a good chance to be just fine playing early.
 
Jerry, why are you still arguing this? If Browning is the best QB, he should start. For fuck's sake, you don't redshirt your best QB for a special 2019 season. And if he's not the best, he should redshirt if possible. Ideally, Lindquist or Carta Samuels will play well enough that Browning can redshirt. We don't have ideal QB depth though. It's a dreckfest.

The reason Winston and Maziel redshirted is that EJ Manuel and Ryan Tannehill were in front of them. Both those guys were only 1st round picks. I'm sure if we had a QB of that caliber, or even Keith Price, Browning would redshirt.

Thanks, fellas, for continuing to prove my point: Young QBs, no matter how talented, aren't generally very good as true frosh. Which explains how forgettable veterans like EJ Manuel, Darron Thomas, and Ryan Tannehill can keep future Heisman winners on the bench in Year One.

Tannehill was a Top 10 pick in the Draft and is having some success in the NFL ... hard to say that he was "forgettable"

And while I absolutely agree with your opinion that young QBs are generally not as good as veteran QBs ... you have to look at it in perspective to the current situation.

The reality is that we don't have a firmly entrenched or established QB that has shown any signs of skill at the position. The only player at the position with experience had a real up/down game at Hawaii. The other two options will be freshman.

If Lindy can give you a competent year this year, then I say you play him and let the two young QBs develop. But if he isn't going to be the answer and isn't better than what Miles gave you last year, then you have to go to a freshman and take your lumps this year.

You guys are so used to players regressing or treading water that you refuse to believe that players usually improve. Linquist did better than the other QBs in spring ball and it wasn't really close. He also won't get split in two from a tackle like Browning would if he were to start.

Sark and Willingham is no longer the fucking coach.

I went back to read one of the spring practice reports and read a session when Browning went 8-8, KJCS went 4-5, and Lindquist went 1-4.
