That's like comparing a guy that was the coach at USC that later went to Pullman. Of course he will be better in LA, he's the same guy in a better situation. No matter what Chip does he isn't going to live up to what he did previously long term and wouldn't have anyway. Sure, he'd be infinitely better than Helfrich, but winning the conference 75% of the time wasn't happening in the aggregate.

Most great coaches are terrible in the NFL because they are the lowest paid guy in the room with the biggest ego and the players know they are going to fire the coach before they fire all of them. I'll second that. Unless he has a 2.0 Chip Kelly offense in his back pocket that no one in cfb has seen again there is no way he would have the same success as he did the first time.

Plus as LSU/Auburn/Ohio State/everyone in the NFL has shown, when you have the DL up front to take away the tb off the read zone, the ends don't have to crash and suddenly that play doesn't work.

As long as we have the Pete's (Peterson and Kwitkowsk) here and are recruiting/developing the likes of Gaines/Vea/Qualls let Oregon bring him back. All that does is give them a false sense of "everything will be ok now".

Disagree. Like Saban, Chip would be immediately great again if he went back to college. I don't think he's going back anytime soon though, definitely not by November.
 
Chip would probably get Oregon back to the CFP once or twice. Let's hope they keep Helfrich for too long and then hire some other dipshit.
 
Chip would have Oregon back in contention his first year back on campus. The NFL has nothing to do with anything. Oregon was perfect for Chip because it is an all white racist state but there is the SEC you know.

And yes the actual duck is correct, after the last 12 years, really 22 years, UW cares deeply about Oregon. And beating them

Unpopular with Duoks/Quooks and HBoogs, but quite plausible. I completely agree with the idea that much of Kelly's success at Oregon was about being at the right place at the right time, and any future success in college would again depend on the team, the kind of shape the program is in and which conference it's in.

Someone compared Kelly to Saban in this thread. I gotta say, that's laughable. Saban rebuilt LSU from the walking dead to a National Championship in a few short years and repeated that act by rebuilding Alabama from mediocre to a program that has since won several National Championships. And he did all of this in a very competitive SEC. Kelly has never recruited in the same stratosphere as Saban at LSU or Alabama, nor has he built the kind of teams that win National Titles. What Kelly did at Oregon was elevate an already good and stable program from good to very good occasional first losers. That's not Nick Saban. At all.

His offense was run by half of the teams in the country at one point but now people now how to stop it. And now teams are going away from it. He and Oregon were lightning in a bottle at the time with the uniforms, facilities and success on the field. But it's over.

He would have the Ducks back to Bellotti status. But never back to annual BCS games. Too many other schools have more sizzle now and Oregon's facilities don't stand out any more.

There are more teams in the Top 25 running an offense similar to Oregon's than not.

Chip = Petrino. Wherever they are you'll find a program that's skull fucking 90% of their schedule. Unless they are in the NFL, which means nothing to coaching ability.

Kelly inherited a well oiled machine with major financial backing that needed a few tweaks. Kelly finished his first year with the same record Bellotti had the year before, though kudos to Kelly for being first loser in the Rose Bowl.

Saban inherited a dumpster fire at MSU, a team that was forced by scandal to forfeit the few wins they garnered the year before he took over. And you're old enough to know full well that neither Bama nor LSU click without the right coach. Same goes for USC, another team never short on talent. At this point it's just plain silly to compare Kelly to Saban.
