  1. Twilight Foursomes - I get it, some groups need the twilight rate. But some of us working during the day wanna finish a round after work in 3 hours. That foursome usually wants to dick around and take up the full 4 and 1/2 hours. Hurry up!
  2. Your Bros Not Taking a 3 foot putt seriously - You're competing with your bros, and they do this weird stance consistenly on 3 or 4 feet putts and consistently miss it, then count it as good. Then they brag to your other friends that they beat you by a stroke. No you fuckin didn't you cheated!
  3. Peeps hitting from the Blues or Blacks with no business being there - See this one all the time. Dudes hitting from the blues because "Bro, I can hit my driver 300 yards". It does no good to hit that driver 300 yards when its 100 yards to the right. Furthermore, that tee shot makes you further away on every shot going forward giving you more opportunity to fuck up your shots down the line. You need to be shooting in the 70s before moving to the next tee.
  4. People not knowing how to drop of players on the carts - I see foursomes all drive to one ball, watch that dude hit, then both carts drive to the next player watch him hit and so forth. Bros, drop every player off at their ball, have every one be ready to hit, then pick each other up and drive to the next balls.
  5. People who want to play "Smart golf" - Bro, hit your fucking driver off the tee. I guarantee you thats the easiest club to hit. Your 4 iron shot isn't smart, it just makes your next fuckup even longer to recover from.
 
Context: I played twilight golf yesterday and these came up. What better way to vent your anger than this board.
 
  1. What the fuck are you doing messing around with public golf with your income and living in Seattle? You have to drive to at least Tacoma to get anything decent.
  2. Agreed. I’ve experienced this, maybe not so much with putts but more with people who play with their own made up rules. It’s a reason you should always play for even a small amount of money. You can say whatever you want but I’m not paying you.

  5. Driver sweet spots are so huge now that it’s stupid not to hit unless a reachable hazard or a dogleg.
 
6. I’ve played a ton of matchplay in actual competition this year. Please do not ask if something is good. Calmly proceed to marking your ball until you hear otherwise. And no Im not giving you the three footer downhill that you have to play outside the hole. I will not be offended when that putt is not given to me.

Admittedly the Throbber plays virtually zero golf. Enjoy watching the elite players but rarely pick up a club.
Have never understood the whole concept of a gimme. Joe Average hacks his way down the fairway with somewhere between 6 and 10 shots and finally reaches his goal. At the very least, the sound of the ball eventually hitting the bottom of the cup should provide some satisfaction.
 
Yeah it’s good and bad. Speeds up play, but you’d be shocked to see how many 3 footers are missed by guys in competition where everything has to get holed out. And then these same guys bitch at the bar about other peoples handicaps being too high that do play by the rules and do hole out everything when they play.

Looking for lost balls. If you don't find it in 1 minute, drop and move the fuck on. And you don't need a fucking search party of 4 looking for it.
Groups on a Par 5 wtg for another group to finish on the green when they're 3 bills out. You fucknuts drove it 250 and you think you're gonna smoke a 3 wood 3 football fields?
"Pro Putt Guy" You know the one who fucking thinks he's Scheffler scoping his 30 foot double breaker for 3 min only to miss the hole by 6 feet
 
All this reminds me of a match I played on this summer. 2 man best ball matchplay, with handicaps. I’m giving one shot to everyone in the group on this hole. It’s a par 5 and I hit near the green in two, one opponent hits on in 3, maybe 40 feet from the hole, the other hits to about 10 feet in three. I chipped up for a tap in birdie which was given. First opponent puts from 40 feet to about 4 and just rakes the ball up, effectively eliminating himself from the hole, presumably because his partner had a 10 footer for a 4 net 3 to win the hole and would tie at worst. Next guy puts his birdie putt 3 or 4 feet past the hole and then is looking around for a gimme which never came. He then misses the putt to lose the hole.

On the next tee box I get ready to hit first as we had just won the hole. They stop me and said it was a push and they were still up. The guy that raked up his four footer that would have tied the hole, is claiming he made the putt. Then changes his story to he assumed I gave it to him. Then it changes to he would have made it. Eventually they were out of ideas and conceded us the hole as if they had a choice and were being the better people and I was the asshole.

Golf does suck sometimes.
 
Call that shit out when he picks it up. Everyone should know the rules of match play and if they don’t that’s on them. They’re the asshole.
 
He knew the rule, he got caught trying to weasel an out. I was a bit of an asshole when I said I already have you one shot on this hole, but I’m not giving you two.
 
  1. I like my public courses. And just because I can afford something doesn’t mean I don’t do an analysis of cost vs benefit on every purchase I make. I’ll need to play golf a lot more often for it to financially make sense.

My favorite part about searching for the 2-3 shots I put OB in a round is finding 4 - 5 Pro V1's in the process of finding mine. I can't believe how many hacks pony up for those balls when they shoot 90+.
 
The math will never square up no matter how much you play. It’s a convenience thing when you have kids and not that much free time is when it pays off in terms of just driving 5 minutes and playing with no tee time and no one else on the course.

When im retired Bob I will look into it for sure. The other thing that bothers me is then that investment is in one club and I’d hate to play the same course over and over and over again.
