2023 QB next year if you had a time machine.

longduckdong

New Fish
In the past 40 years of UW quarterbacks.

With DeBoer’s offense.

Would you rather have anyone start the season other then Penix?

I can’t think of one, however arguments of Pickett could be made (pre injury).

Thoughts?

Penix is much, much better than Pickett

No. He’s the best UW QB probably ever? (Moon was better as a pro) easily the best of my lifetime.

Race Bannon might chime in with a Billy Joe reference. But I think I'd take Penix over everyone in my lifetime

Penix showed a lot of the same grit and moxie of Billy Joe

Winners win

Bring home the natty and build the statue

Crazy, it's not even really a debate when I think about it. Moon or Brunell developed in the way QBs are now in high school and early college are interesting but not reality. Tui not a good enough passer and a turnover machine.

I would be curious about pre injury Mark Brunell.

Brunell was a better passer in the NFL imo. Like Moon he saved his best for last in the Rose Bowl but lost. From 90 to 92 he started every loss

I don't think there's any former UW QB who could run KDB's offense as well as Penix did. His accuracy and decision-making are above average and his arm talent and ability to avoid the rush (sacks are a QB stat) are elite and he was plenty clutch too. Hard to find anybody in UW history who was above average in all five and elite in more than one.

Pickett and Moon are probably the closest with maybe a nod to BJH.

Penix is the one.

Some people also forget he was #1 in the country on 3rd down - many of which were 3rd and long due to delay of game penalties on 1st down. Some people forget that.

Penix all the way. Honorable mention IMO goes to Chandler, BJH, Brunell, and Tui

Good call on Chandler. Big league arm. James hadn't changed the offense yet. Look at what Chris did with the Falcons and a passing offense

The Jon Minter disrespect is unreal.

In actuality fuck that guy and almost every Blanchet grad.

Brunell would be my choice. Would easily move the pocket, good arm.

I immediately thought Mark Brunell.

if he had the same offensive line as Penix he would have kicked serious ass. He was a very good passer. Good mobility.

He was in the NFL for like 18 years for fucks sakes ...

I love Brunell but he was pretty inaccurate at UW. Didn’t really get his reads down until Jacksonville. The Colorado end of game debacle and the end of the 1993 Rose Bowl are forever etched in my brain. He’s not the guy here.
