That kid fucking sucks. No way is he Pac-12 material. DDY 1.

What I see is this...

Offense: Obviously not. He's slow. Maybe he could be a TE at Oregon State?

Defense: No. He has good small-space quickness, true. But he has no punch, sort of naturally weak. When he hits people they don't rock back; he doesn't jolt them even when he sneaks up on them.

So, obviously he's unpolished—and you have to look at him that way—but the question is, once it's polished what do you have to work with underneath?

With this kid, I just see a guy who looks like a EWU kid. His technique is okay and all that, and he's good for HS, but he just doesn't have that burst; the ability to blow opponents back, when he sacks people it looks like he's wrestling with an octopus, not punching someone with a brick.

He has a good 'look test' and he moves quickly, but he doesn't convert speed/quickness to power well at all. That's what you need when you are a D player.

On O he's a mess.

This is why HS Stats can be highly overrated without proper context ...

My general opinion is that outside of some elite players, HS Football in the State of Washington is filled up with some average players and a bunch of non athletic players. As such, when you see guys like Gaskin running through everybody at O'Dea, it's not hard to tell that they are going to be good because the gap between them and everybody else is so vast. It's also why when you look at tape for teams out of good leagues in California, Texas, Florida, etc. that you don't tend to see domination because most teams in those leagues have multiple D1 players. It's also why when you see what guys like McGrew are doing in those types of leagues, you take notice.

Hunter isn't quick or fast ... he lumbers. It'd be one thing if he was showing that on tape in an elite league, but he isn't. He's the equivalent of the slow non jumping 5'11" kid playing at Stanwood being considered a high end recruit because he's putting up massive numbers (hi Ryan Appleby). Rarely will such players be anything more than depth players in a program ... and I'm actually insulting Appleby by comparing him to this kid.

DDY is spot on here ... if there's anything, it's as a TE. But he's the kind of kid that you let an Oregon State or lower conference team take the chance on and see if they can get him coached up. But as it currently stands, he wouldn't see the field for at least 2-3 years at UW.
