I was so glad when him and Ross left. Both played selfish and the team got infinitely better playing TEAM basketball.
 
I've always been a big Wroten fan. He's still flawed, but he will play in the NBA for a long time. The team he was on should have been a lot better and was probably Romar's worst coaching job.

He needed to beat an unranked Oregon State and pop off and couldn't do it. Fucking terrible.
 
Romar only made it to the 2nd round with a team compiled of:

Justin Holiday (Warriors)
IT (Suns)
Terrence Ross (Raptors)
CJ Wilcox (Clippers)

4 current NBA players.

The year before he could only make it to the sweeet 16 with Pondexter minus Ross/Wilcox. Pondexter as a senior though was better than Ross + Wilcox their 1st seasons.

Then of course he didn't even make the tournament with three 1st rounders in Wroten, Ross, and Wilcox. Romar is decent recruiter (although the past couple years have been dreck) and a pretty terrible gameday coach who every once in awhile will pull out a good win out of his ass.

I could counter with the fact that his best run happened with less talent and his best player often injured, but I don't really care.

But Tony Wroten was a fucking terrible basketball player as a freshman. The biggest issue with that season is Romar had no guard depth so he had no choice but play Wroten and couldn't bench him even after the 23rd time he decided to completely not play defense or fire a no look pass into the third row. I wasn't one who said "we'll be better since Wroten is leaving" since he assuredly would have matured some as a sophomore and that team would have had more backcourt depth to motivate Wroten to gaf if he wanted to play, but he was a really, really bad basketball player as a frosh.

Winning the conference with that dreck was a pretty decent accomplishment as far as Romar's career is concerned.

Romar's had much worse coaching jobs than that.

If i felt like re-opening this whole can of worms I would really get into the weeds on this. Instead i'll say let's agree to disagree and also state that TW is a very talented player who utilized about 1/5th of his actual defensive capability. His stats were incredibly inflated based on being a selfish player(specifically on defense). When you state he was all-pac 12, this is akin to saying someone is gold glove. It's more flash than actual people who are watching the games. TW scored, usually at full disregard for his team or winning the game, which gave him stats to be all-pac.

Overall, he wasn't bad, he wasn't great. He could have been unreal and chose a different path.

Still hope he puts it all together b/c he is one heck of a player when he wants to be. Just needed more time to mature and maybe getting kicked around the d-league a bit.

Yes there were games he was the best player on the court (Duke in particular). There were as many or more where he was the worst.

He was never the worst. He was really good for a freshman. He was All PAC 12 because he was one of the best players in the conference.
