The single-minded media focus on the playoff is awful right now - just see the "here's how Bama can still make playoff" stuff as the LSU game was ending. Or the three million articles about the same 5-6 teams starting in July, or even in mid January.

If they can come up with a playoff that makes sense and doesn't continue to worsen the gap between the top teams and everyone else, then give us that. Fix the ridiculous scheduling differences between conferences while they're at it.
Otherwise, give us the bowl system.

I would only go back to bowls-only if there weren't 724 bowls and if FCS wins didn't count toward bowl eligibility.

When I was in my mid teens, there were 14-15 bowl games. That felt about right.

This current system is essentially ran by ESPN. Too corrupt

Voted for return to bowls. I liked the discussion and arguments when it wasn’t clear on the field which team should be crowned. CFP makes the traditional bowls less important.

Current “playoff” is worse than past bowl system

A better playoff system is better than past bowl system

5 auto bids; one from each conference winner

6 play-in teams (3 games) determined by highest ranking that didn’t win conference championship game or are from non P5 or independent.

Play-in games at higher rank home field.

After play-in games to an 8 team playoff

Round of 8: home field of higher seeded team

Round of 4: bowl game site

Championship: bowl game site

All P5 conference must have championship game
All P5 teams must play at least 9 conference and 2 OOC games
All P5 teams must play at least one OOC game against another P5 opponent
No games against div2/fcs opponents will count

Or just go full commie soccer relegation mode

Not just run by ESPN but they own most of the shitty bowl games. Part of the explosion of bowl games is because ESPN needed more material.

In summary and as always, fuck ESPN with a rusty cheese grater.

I'd do a hybrid in which the top two teams play a week after NYD.

The playoff lost me when two SEC teams played each other. Again.

I go back and forth. The new BCS meant more good, meaningful games so I miss it.

On the other hand I want 1991 Miami.

If they can't come up with a playoff format that involves more teams and games, approximately equaling the number of traditionally good bowl games, then I'd prefer going back.

Going back to the Bowls would be lame now after we’ve already had the playoff. The bets should play the best.

With the old bowl system an undefeated team would sometimes play a team with 3 losses. Ohio State being undefeated and playing a 2-3 loss Oregon or Utah team would suck.

The BCS was stupid because it was ESPN driven. It would have been nice to see the Pete Carroll USC teams get some more cracks at winning a title.

The playoff is fun. Like others have said, it needs to be 8 teams. There is a way to still have the real bowl games mean something and have a true champion.

I fixed a typo or autocorrect issue that makes me look like leas of a dipshit.

Undefeated Penn State got stuck with Oregon in 94 and Nebraska won the natty

I like watching elite teams play elite teams.

I also don’t trust the new age media to objectively vote on a national champion. Now it’s less reporters and more guys who try to get as many clicks as possible to keep their shitty dying newspapers alive

To add: Adam Jude was an AP voter up until last year. Adam fucking Jude would’ve had a 1/65th say in crowning a national champion. No thanks

I used to be #TeamPlayoff, but now I’m nostalgic for the old system. That being said, I can’t see how reverting back would work.
