It's impossible answer for sure especially since it's a different era. But I just can't see things unfolding in the same way as they currently sit.

No way, the only guys he wanted were guys that wanted to be a Husky... if forced into this his response would have been to find another player he wanted to play, insure the player he didn't want and run naked bootlegs ... a response designed to encourage social development.
