Wilcox couch sold

He should just chill for a couple years and resurface as a DC so he can mostly focus on coaching. He’s a good DC, SC would be smart to hire him.
J. Smith will be fired next year once the Michigan State's other buys come off the table. Wouldn’t be surprised if he fired in December. He should move back to Oregan State, he would run the WAC-12

you could do a lot worse than Wilcox as a DC
Cal won’t be able to get Stein and maybe not even Tosh.
But I bet Jim Mora Jr would give them a look. He turned UConn into a decent program and he knows the region from a recruiting perspective
And after all it’s Cal. The list of HCs who want that job ain’t exactly long….

The list of people who want $5,000,000 a year, however, is.

A lot of coaches will want that job. The number of them who are any good, however, is the question.

Needs to be that much, or more, to get anyone to go there and deal with the cost of living.

Cal is so far behind in facilities and NIL, guys. Once candidates start looking under the hood it’s gonna get tough.

Best thing they can do is throw it all at Tosh and see if he’s willing to take a shot with his Alma mater

What G6 or FCS coach turns the job down if they don't have a better offer? Not a single one. Wilcocks made $5m a year. That's more than 13 other P4 coaches. The foot washer at Liberty makes $6m because churches don't have to pay taxes, after that it's Dan Mullen at UNLV at 3.5, and then it falls off a cliff. They could quadruple what Eric Morris is making at UNT.

Firing Wilcox seems shortsighted mostly because he’s not terribly but Cal being in the ACC could risk the fate of wsu/beavers if they hire a coach incapable of Justin’s Cal record. Seems a little risky if Cal and Stanford hope to join the Big Ten before the next reshuffling.

Just reading about how they got so NIL poached, while not having a coaching change or anything, really highlights what a 2nd tier job it really is.
Sad to see. It's always bummed me out that this happened to them, as I have various family that are alums and still go to games.
A beautiful warm Fall afternoon into evening at Strawberry Canyon is way up there on the list of amazing venues, or as we would say in Seattle … "Greatest Settings" 🤮 (god I wish we'd stop that)

Pure idiocy. Year 9 you old fart. Year NINE.

Year 9 and it’s Cal. Having stability with the shifting tides of college football between now and 2030 or until the shuffling ends does seem like a bad idea to me anyway. Occasionally an idiot and old ✔️

Fuck stability. It doesn't mean anything if the team sucks. Ohio State has meaningful stability. Tedford was 72-42 after 9 years at CAL, with 1 losing season(the 9th) and 2 losing conference records. Wilcocks was 48-55 with two winning seaons(his 2nd and 3rd) and ZERO winning conference records. He's garbage. The woe is CAL shit is nonsense.

Yeah because you'd turn down a 6 year $36,000,000 contract.

There are a lot of coordinators out there who would wear a pink tutu and name their first born son Sue for a chance to get the Cal job.
Yeah, it's a sucky job, but there are a lot of sucky college gigs and they all find head coaches somehow.

The alma mater thing is just bullshit. Those days are long gone.
Coaches go where they can win and get paid a fuck ton of money.

Wilcox had lost more than I realized. His peak was trolling Petersen with wins in 2018 & 19 and going to crap bowl games.
I'd love to see the Tosh.0 experiment in Berkeley and they should do it if he'll accept. Might be a better gig though for him to just be a coordinator at bigger progrums.
The job sucks compared to others but you get paid a lot of money to coach football and you get paid if you sucks so bad that you get fired.
