Why the Falcons shut down Michael Penix Jr. for the rest of the preseason after a single game

dont get the move, at all. so is he going to be the backup? tryin to get heinicke some reps so maybe someone tries to trade a 3rd for him? kirk doesnt come back for three games and youre gonna throw a cold penix out there?
love penix (no homo) but bummed he went to that shitshow of an organization.

Seems idiotic. Of all the players on the team to not develop, he's the one?
 
My read is that they were sensitive to criticism when drafting him that he could be fragile. He then sustained a minor injury that would result in some lost time. Rather than subject themselves to public scorn by shelving him so quickly, the Falcons are just telling everyone "We've seen enough."
This is only my hunch and not based on any evidence.
 
I read it as Atlanta has seen starters get shelved and they don’t want to take a chance on losing Penix because they think they’re gonna need him.
Cousins is far from a sure thing to last very long. There may even be questions that he can start the season.

The org shitshow is definitely true, but it's certainly better for MPJ to get 9 guaranteed games in domes each year, with his two guaranteed outdoor games in the south. He was a lot better in domes/warmer temps the past couple of years.
