Times have changed.

Back when kids committed to a coach and social engineering was the only way to find out in the fastest time possible the latest recruiting news... is kaput. Kids today announce on Twitter, which everyone has access to, and kids today put their own recruiting highlight videos up on Hudle and/or YouTube, which again everyone has access to.

So, what exactly are people paying subscriptions to Dawgman for? The privilege to read some random guys opinion on rumors regarding teenage boys who change their minds almost as much as teenage girls?

Come on, man.

I don't need to find out a kid committed an hour before he blasts it out to the universe on Twitter. If I feel the need to talk recruiting at all, I am perfectly fine discussing recruiting here on Hardcore Husky an hour after the fact, and without the drama of entitled douchebags controlling the flow of conversation.

Dawgman is like the DVD. Yeah, it's still around but it's days are numbered and they know it.

You both have correct elements and I would say are 2 of the 3 reasons.

The 3rd is something that is complete common sense for those with business savy (which the LPT lacks in spades), TCU MBAs, or have ever heard of Michael Porter and Five Forces (the original five reasons).

It wasn't hard to see the trend in recruiting trending towards FREE social media. Even before that, you were able to get comparable recruiting information on ESPN plus a ton of other freebees for a fraction of the price on Scout (and this was when Biggins was there running the West desk). The quality and price point that you were getting for recruiting with KJV and the LPT was ill informed a high percentage of the time (up to 81%) and clearly overpriced.

However, the one thing that they had built up in terms of equity that was sustainable long term was the community. At the time, they were the place to talk Husky Football. But between wanting to be the stars of their own show pandering to the select insiders in a "we're having a joke at your expense" line of treatment as well as running off most of their high caliber posters if/when they disagreed with the company line, they essentially sabotaged their entire business.

The other thing that deserves mention is the way that they sabotaged themselves with the "Guys From Dawgman" radio show on KJR. KJV comes across as an idiot schoolboy that NOBODY would want to hang out and the rest of the LPT comes across as generally not having informed opinions (although Fetters can drop a few good opinions from time to time). Between giving out free beer on the radio and more or less giving a less than stellar endorsement of their knowledge, they allowed competitors (Hardcore Husky) to capitalize on their mistakes and build up the community that is really the only thing worth value in a sports message board community. It is the community that drives traffic, web hits, and traffic. It's the traffic that has the ability to generate advertising revenue - which is the real driver of revenue for a message board (that and a Stalinistic plea for additional funds).

The only fucking reason I know about Doogman and Fatters and Kim is because of people like you who talk about them.

What the dawgmen would probably tell you is that they sell a recruit's comments after a visit, conversations with high school coaches, and all the rumors, speculation, innuendos, smoke and mirrors leading up to a verbal commitment.

In other words, here is what the dawgmen would be doing if born in the 19th Century:
