Why are we running up tempo at weird times?

I don't understand our use of an up tempo. We use it at odd times and for no apparent reason. Why were we using up tempo when we ran the ball like 7 times in a row in the second half? If we are going to run the clock out we should be milking the damn clock.

Up tempo has just been used weirdly all year. It's like Smith just throws it in for shits and giggles and has no real concept of when to use it to our advantage and when to lay off.
