Who had the 2nd best Polynesian recruiting class ever?

I am looking through some old 247 classes and I can't even find one close to ours. USC obviously had some classes with a few 4/5 star polys, but they never had that many kids total.

We got

9 Four stars and
4 Three stars

INSANE

(I am genuinely curious what class would be considered the closest, for comparison)

Would 2018 Washington be in the running?

Looking at poly populations in the US, there's about 1.3 million people who identify as some combination of Poly. 358K of that is from Hawaii and another 320K is from California (so, let's just say those two states round to ~half the population). Washington at 73K has a larger population than even Texas at 58K.

Which is to say, you're looking at 2/3+ of the U.S. Poly population on the West Coast and blue-chip recruits in the Pac-12 footprint stay home about 80% of the time. So, its gotta be from a Pac-12 team.

If USC doesn't have more than a few on any 247 classes (barring something crazy pre-Internet rankings), hard to imagine anyone passing us. Oregon has obviously had some huge players, but didn't see more than a handful in any class. Their class this year w/6 players is the highest I managed to find.

We got both Poly Bowl MVPs and the runner up.

And all this started with an unspectacular offer to a 3-star Utah commit from Emerald Ridge

TBF it started when Pete hired Malloe and most of us are guilty of panning that hire.
