I could be wrong, but I believe UCLA abandoned football for rugby in the late 1920s and 1930s before coming back.

UW really needs to beat Wisconsin, Iowa and USC consistently, otherwise they'll be stuck in the middle of the B1G.
With Seattle becoming the 5th biggest city in the US in a few decades, UW is in very good shape to consistently be in the first tier of the B1G teams beyond 2030 (when they get the full B1G share).
USC has won 1 Pac 12 Championship in the last 15 years. I think UW is ready soon to move past them, if they haven't already.
The future looks good for UW football.
UW remodeled Husky stadium at the right time - don't have to worry about the stadium for another 35 years. In 5 years, UW should be able to buy some of the best players available.
