Virginia Tech hires James Franklin as next football coach

This will be crushing news for HcH posters who have been perpetrating the Franklin Psyop here

this is a bad job to take. Does he have such a bar rep behind the scenes that this was the best he could get? Why not wait it out and see what else becomes available? None of this makes sense to me.

Also, boobs.

Franklin was originally owed a $49 million buyout https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/46573030/penn-state-fires-head-coach-james-franklin-sources-say by https://www.espn.com/college-football/team/_/id/213/penn-state-nittany-lions on Oct. 12, but part of his deal with the Hokies, sources confirmed to ESPN, includes a $9 million settlement from the Nittany Lions.
jfc, his agent (and he?) should be shot*. why even work?

*not a call for genocide, only one, maybe two people getting shot.

Because he had an offset clause, and a more severe than usual one at that. Anything he made on his next contract would come out of the buyout AND he was contractually required to seek another head coaching position. He just made an ADDITIONAL $9,000,000 you dirt clod. PSU paid him $9m more than it would have otherwise to get out from under the long term obligation.

I think he goes 7-5 and 8-4 every year at VT.
He should improve their recruiting though.
Didn't Frank Beamer have trouble beating ranked teams as well?
They like mediocrity there.

VT and Miami traded blows in the old Big East before they joined the ACC
But VT didn't win a natty and the U did. Closest was losing to Free Shoes with Vick in the title game. 99 or so
Then Beamer did the long Jim Owens fade away into the sunset of mediocrity

The ACC has a lot of teams and is pretty awful. 1-2 decent, not great teams every year and then a lot of mid level dreck. It’s like the B10 without TOSU or Oregon throwing out 30 million every year for a roster. Franklin essentially gets to recruit the same areas he has for 15 years. He will get them to be a consistent 9 win team that might challenge for the conference title every few years if he can find a good QB. VaTech will reclaim their rightful place as an almost really good team.

When I read this on ESPN earlier in the week this was shocking. Taking a $9 million buyout on $49 mil to continue coaching right away while dealing with the new college football rules. Mind blown gif
