You can't do at D2 what you can do elsewhere. You are stuck with whatever assistants are on staff. Only the AD can fire assistants, I think. The last coach (Bennett) was evidently trying to move the assistants in and out.
 
True story.....

1st game as the UI Head Coach and Tormey is trying to get the Vandals fired up for their game. He's doing his speech and getting all into it....."and we're gonna paint the field purple and gold!" Dead silence for a second....

"Fuck you!" a guy yells....and the team starts to leave the locker room without him

That sums up Tormey in a nutshell.

actually this story of yelling "fuck you" to a head coach.... impossible. Most of you guys have not ventured beyond mom's basement in your sweatpants/boner. The fact is that if you tell a coach to fuck off you will be facing, at a minimum, not ever playing. If you tell a head coach that in front of a team you will not be on the team.

It reminds me of those stories posted on doogman about how Gilby was supposedly out golfing the day before a game. It was totally false, Gilby himself remarked on it years later, but people believed it.

I buddy of mine played for Tormey at Idaho. Says Tormey wasn't well liked by the players... they thought he was rather odd.

Nevada fired him and Ault took back the HC job.

Yeah! Fire the AD. He has fired Bennett, who only won the conference just about every year, as well as a run deep into the D2 finals in 2009. His list of finalists includes a high school coach. He may also try the stupid hire-the-alum trick.

in general, I like going to small college now more so than big time arena... stand right next to the field, the level of play is surprisingly high, no replay timeouts, no commercial timeouts, cheap tickets...
