I just had a curious thought. What if the NFL Players Association, after witnessing the NIL portal freedom in college football, sued the NFL to get rid of the NFL Draft and make it all free agency all the time?
I think the NFL veterans also like the draft because it allows teams to suppress rookie salaries, which, in turn, means a larger share of the pie is left for the veterans trying to get big second and third contracts. A free-for-all, rather than a draft, would see QB's like Caleb Williams getting $50 million a year as a rookie who hasn't paid a cent into the NFLPA, etc.
