The program needs to advance every year

I think we're all on board with this idea, right?

What some of you don't realize is that even though the record was the same last year as it was in 2011, the program advanced quite a bit and is on an upward swing. Of course some of you will mock this, and none of you will give me credit when this comes to fruition, but it's part of the biz.

Yep, that beat down over Portland St. is one I'll tell my grandkids about some day.

Seriously, one of the saddest parts of the season, in retrospect, was the fact that we were taunting the Portland State players at halftime. It takes a real bunch of undisciplined losers to taunt a team that knows they are traveling somewhere to get an ass beating. I can't wait to see the "swagger" we have while we destroy Idaho State this year.

I don't mind the taunting, but it is telling that our players do all of it against terrible teams. Where were the tough guy attitudes in Baton Rouge, Eugune, and Tucsan? In fact, I remember LSU players taunting our players, who didn't do anything about it.

This is a soft program. Sark is soft and it filters through the whole program. A bunch of front runners who pat themselves on the back for Holiday Bowls and blowing out Portland State.

Sark had to show he was a TUFF coach by bitching out the entire team in front of everyone at halftime too.

Like others have stated where was this attitude the previous week when LSU guys were making us look like fucking middle schoolers and taunting us as well. That LSU game was as bad or worse than any beat down during the 0-12 season.

The 0-12 team had quit on their coach. What was these guys excuse for the LSU debacle?

Too many people are point to the defensive improvement as their reason for hope. Problem is the best defensive games came against teams playing with struggling QBs.

I think Wilcox has potential, but even his D has not proven it can even SLOW down the spread attacks.

And that is a scary thoughts with the offensive minded coaches in this league.

Yes like fans were quick to praise Holt and his defense for playing "great" down the stretch in 2010. For those who remember we faced a ton of backup QB's during that "magical" 4 game win streak.

Just like this past year we faced some downright shitty ass QB's. Whenever we faced a decent(not great) QB he typically had his way with our defense. Every team ran the ball on us even Portland State.

We still gave up some ugly numbers to Oregon, LSU and Arizona. Why I'm going to "let it play out" before I praise Wilcox as the savior.

I remember plenty of idiots who were worried because they thought Wilcox was the new hot commodity and would become a HC at a PAC 12 school. This is after 2 or 3 solid defensive performances and I think one of them was the Portland State game.

After the Stanford game I especially remember that. I bet Wilcox will be head coach at Cal.

Then this offseason comes around and he didn't even interview for one head coaching job.

WHAT??!!! I was hearing he should be the head coach. Plus he did miracles at BSU and Tennessee.

I've had the debate many times. Please stop with the Wilcox is the "greatest coach in America" shit. Maybe he is, maybe not. Yes, the D improved. And yes they took it up the ass in several games as well. I'm not going to go all Passion and say he needs to win a Championship before I say he is great coach, but maybe a couple of seasons of improvement and consistency would be nice to see first.

Do you think he'd be conservatively proven a great coach before given a HC offer somewhere else? in this overreaching coaching market I dont know if we'll get a chance to really see what he's made of. At this point I'd rather bet on Wilcox than Sark though, but I have a feeling Wilcox will be gone before Sark.

They should have both been sent door.ass.out. at midfield at the end of the 2012 Apple Cup.

Wilcox is a proven coordinator with success at multiple stops. The UW D struggled against good QB's and can't stop spread offenses but that will happen in due time when the DL has more than 1-2 pac-12 starters out of 4. The defensive staff is quite strong and can recruit. Tosh stole Vatuvei from USC at the last minute in 2012 and last year pulled in a strong class at DL. They already have a commit from a guy Biggins said would be top 50 next year.

Its sacrilege to say but Wilcox is a better college DC than Mora or whoever is at UCLA. True its only one year but UW was ahead of UCLA in all but two defensive stats...sacks and 3rd downs. Mora's D gave up 27+ points in 9 games last year versus 5 for UW. And keep in mind UCLA's offense was near the top of the conference while UW's was near the bottom. With a good offense, UW's D would have fared better. And UCLA didn't play Oregon.

This D staff can build a championship defense because Wilcox is very good and Tosh and Sirmon can recruit. And Sirmon and Heyward did quite well at their positions in year one.

I don't need to wait another a year to see what is already obvious....but go ahead flame away and ignore how much worse UCLA's D was than UW's last year.

I agree that UW's defensive staff is above average. Hayward looks like a beast and Sirmon engineered an incredible makeover in the LB corps. Tosh can recruit, that much we know. I'm less convinced he can coach, though.

One year is a bit soon to reach any definitive conclusions about Mora's defensive staff, but we know his secondary is probably going to suck. It's pretty likely UW has a better defensive staff than UCLA.

It's highly likely UCLA has a better HC than UW.

Wilcox's defenses since he left Boise:
2010, 10th in the SEC in total defense, 9th in scoring defense
2011, 7th in the SEC in total defense, 9th in scoring defense
2012, 4th in the Pac-12 in total defense, 4th in scoring defense

Dude was lucky to get out of Tennessee when he did and luckier still to go to a place where being in the middle is good enough.
