The first wave of big events is over and the Florida swing winds down this week at the Valspar and thoughts turn to the magnolia trees of Augusta Georgia. Three more tournaments to qualify or prepare and the big week arrives. Takes too long to get here and goes by too fast

My Masters Tournament Power Rankings
1986 - The Bear comes out of hibernation on 16
The real tradition is watching highlights and docs every year. Basically have Sunday memorized
Jack birdies 9,10, and 11 then bogeys 12 and Kenny says - well it was fun while it lasted
Seve hits it to 3 feet with his second on 13 and shakes his caddy/brother's hand like he just wrapped up the tournament. Gave him a nice lead and buried Jack. Allegedly.
Jack birdies 13, eagles 15, birdies 16 and 17 to get within a couple shots
Seve puts the sod over a 5 iron on 15 and dunks it. Seve bogeys 17. Seve is never the same and become bitter at patrons who cheered when he failed even though it was more for Jack succeeding
Tom Kite comes up short on 18 to tie
Greg Norman had completed the first leg of his Saturday Slam in 1986 and had fallen back. He gets red hot on the back and finishes a birdie run on 17 to tie. Needing only a par to get in a playoff, Norman blows his approach right and can't get up and down and Jack puts on his 6th green jacket
2019 One more for the Ages
Tiger F Woods completed an unlikely 15 month comeback with a rousing win over all the kids who at the start of the comeback were thrilled to be playing against Tiger and ended up like Phil and Ernie, 5 jackets
1997 - One for the ages
22 years after the first black man played in the Masters a Cablainasian put on the green jacket. By 12 shots
1996 - Faldo's Norman conquest
The entire world knew that Norman would gag the 6 shot lead he took into Sunday but it was still fun to watch. Faldo as a player was not exciting or fan friendly but he was a cold blooded killer and the worst opponent Greg could have that day. When he became n announcer Faldo turned out to be funny and engaging. Norman remains a cunt to this day
Honorable mention - have only seen the highlights
1975 - Nicklaus, Johnny Miller, Tome Weiskoph and Watson duel on Sunday
1960 - Arnie birdies 17 and 18 to win

Honorable mention to 2011. The year Rory was up by like 4 and finished 8 back of like 12 guys. Shitty winner that year but the back nine was up for grabs for like 5-6 players.
 
He hit the cabin left of the 10th tee
Spieth putting 2 in the water on 12 to blow a lead allowed Danny Willet (who?) to win in 14 or 15
 
I think that was 2016. Willet was like 10th in the world when he won. Obviously didn’t last.
 
I'm ashamed to say that I hated Faldo and liked Norman back in the day. They've flipped positions since. Love Faldo.
Off topic but there was a British at St Àdrews wind by Faldo where Norman came unraveled too. Don't remember the year. I was pissed at that one too.
 
1991 I think
Norman won the 86 Open. The only one he finished that year
 
I was 2 in 1986, so 2019 is number 1 on my list by a mile. They started early that Sunday to avoid bad weather, so I got up around 5 to get breakfast ready. I had a few buddies over, and we drank and watched the tournament all day. I smoked a prime rib, ate like a king, and cried while Tiger was walking up to the green on 18. I’m pretty sure I teared up when he stuffed it on 16. I knew it was over at that point. He wasn’t losing to fuckin Molinari.
1997 is probably number 2, but 2004 was awesome with Phil finally getting his first major. O’Meara winning in 98 was pretty cool, even though I generally hate it when journeymen win The Masters. This is my favorite tournament, and I only want elite players to win it. I don’t like foreigners winning most of the time. I fuckin hated Schwartzel winning, same with Weir, Immelman, Cabrera, and Olazabal. And Vijay Singh. Fuck that guy, I know he was elite, but I always hated him and his man boobs. I’m not against all foreigners though. Sergio and Adam Scott finally winning majors was pretty cool, and Rahm and Matsuyama were deserving winners. Matsuyama’s caddy bowing to the course after the tournament was a really cool moment and great sign of respect.
 
1986 was the first year of world rankings and Langer was #1 and defending champion. The big 5 from Europe were winning majors while Americans cashed checks. Seve was a 2 time winner of the Masters
Jack was a one man tariff
 
I’ve obviously watched highlights of 86, I wish I was old enough to remember it. I’m sure it was epic. It’s my dad’s favorite Masters by far.
 
Cabrera is a good international dude. Agree with the categories of all the others. Would have like to see Louie O win one too.

I never knew the details on 1986. Interesting.
 
Els was on the range warming up for a playoff when Phil hit the putt to win his first. I remember Louie got a double eagle on 2 on Sunday when he was in contention. He is another nearly man in majors
An underrated Masters was when Tiger won one for the ages and his slam. It was a big name leaderboard but I recall not having any suspense because everyone knew Tiger was going to win. He played with Phil in the final group
 
Louie’s double eagle got him into the playoff where Bubba hit that famous shot on 10. Always liked him and Hideki as they had two of the better swings of all time (in my opinion).
