Kasich, Paul, Walker, Huckabee and Bush were the clear losers.
Fiorina is actually the only candidate that successfully stifles Trump. Carson's soft spoken approach also attracts a lot of the public that is sick of political rhetoric. It will be a four person race after this. In order of popularity: Trump, Carson, Rubio, and Fiorina.
Christie and Cruz did pretty well but they don't have the momentum to catch the top four.
I think Rubio's stance on immigration is going to kill him in the end. He's way too left on that issue to get the mass support he needs from the republican voters.

Kasich is probably the most qualified but so far, he isn't doing well on the national stage.
Unless they have executive experience in the private sector or in the military, Senators don't tend to make good Presidents so Rubio and Rand Paul aren't appealing to me.
I do find these debates refreshing in that the Political Correctness has mostly taken a back seat to frank discussions about illegal immigration and the rise in number of people sucking on the government teat (labor force participation rate is back to Carter-esque levels of nearly 40 years ago and people on SS Disability is at an all-time high).
I wish there was more talk about the Earned Income Tax Credit since it is a good way to incentivize people to work. Some people wonder why they should work for $12 an hour when Obama's government makes it too easy to sit on one's duff and make the same or more in benefits per hour than working. I think you definitely saw some separation last night. I thought Carly had a good night but also sounded very canned at times with some of her responses feeling super prepared and wanting to butt in to get her points across without really addressing some of the current discussions directly.
Christie had a strong night and I feel like he's really trying to position himself as the next Attorney General.
I think Carson is incredibly smart but at the same time there's something that doesn't impress me from a Presidential standpoint. His comment about looking to talk and be smart sounds great but doesn't work in action. Sometimes you have to put yourself in the position of thinking like your opponent and go from there. If they aren't interested in talking, you don't talk.
Jeb I thought made a really good point during the discussion about his brother by saying that he kept America safe. And he did in the time period. However, some of the choices that he made, combined with the policies of Obama, have probably made us less safe in the long run. Long term, I think Jeb hurt himself more than he helped himself last night.
Trump basically continues along telling everybody that he's going to surround himself with smart people. And to a certain degree, I don't think that's a terrible thing. Most of us know that the higher up the ladder you go most executives get spoon fed information and part of being a good leader is surrounding yourself with great people around you. The other part though is that when you are in that position there's kind of a "been there seen/done that" type of experience to be able to sniff out what isn't passing the smell test. Trump didn't always come across well on that last night. Probably hurt himself some with his performance.
I continue to be impressed with Cruz and his convictions. He seems to me to be part of the solution instead of the problem. He's got no shot though.
I was disappointed in Kasich in that he's got a great track record which he shared in the first debate. He shared the same message in this debate. I get that he's trying to get people to know him, but he's got to go further in getting people to know who he is. He's making zero impression at the moment.
Huckabee is on the stage to make some points that need to be made but not be made by some of the other candidates.
Walker was more aggressive at this point but he just doesn't seem to have it in my mind.
I thought one of Rubio's weakest points of the night was in addressing Trump about his voting record by saying you're right, I'm leaving the Senate because it is broken. On one hand, I understand his point. On the other hand, it comes across as being somewhere between a spoiled kid not getting his way and a quitter that runs when the going gets tough. For his talk in other parts of the debate about needing a firm Commander in Chief, there's some hypocrisy in the comment.
While Trump will probably get some heat over the comment, he's 100% right in saying Rand Paul has no business on the stage.

It's just going to get worse as more baby boomers retire. The drop really took off in 2009, 64 years after the end of WW2. Couple that in with a birth rate half of that in the 50's and 60's and you get a decreasing participation rate.

With Rand Paul and Trump you got about as close as you'll get. If Paul would sign off on killing Jihadis I'd vote for him
