Back in 2009 or so, Kim told me in casual conversation that he hated the free board, it caused nothing but headaches for him from having to babysit the rabble, and it made him no money. He wished he could eliminate it.

I agree with your first paragraph though, hence being undecided. I think the fact he's considering bringing it back (pressure from someone else most likely) is a sure sign that this site and those of us who bailed out of there have had the desired affect. The idea of bringing the free board back stinks of desperation. It makes sense to stick to the plan.
