This is what I don't get. If these players only care about making sure they get drafted, then why aren't they sitting out after the 8th or 9th season game? Why wait all the way until the big game to sit out?

While they're working on the expansion of the Playoff the natural evolution seems more like any player who reaches good draft status might as well just sit out the entire season - think Markelle Fultz. I think Nick Bosa got accused of doing this. It just is what it is now for us old losers.

Good point. If the NFL wants to do college football a solid they'll say they can't give grades until after the bowls and they want to watch players on that kind of stage.
I've heard the bowls make good money. They also might be smart to offer marque players who would otherwise sit out. NIL money to participate in advertising beforehand.
