Suggestions for booking travel to Texas

There's a solar eclipse you can see from Dallas on April 8 that I absolutely can't miss. Clearly a ton of people feel the same way as flight prices are bonkers in the surrounding days.

Any suggestions?

Book a one-way connecting flight through Dallas to somewhere no one wants to go or is cheap, don't check bags and just leave the airport. If you do this with any regularity the airline will get pissed, but for a 1 time thing where you aren't collecting frequent flyer miles they won't be bothered to do anything. Ideally to a location only served via Dallas so in the event of weather disruptions they still have to get you to Dallas.

For the return, book separate one-way. Will probably still be pricey but at least save in one direction.

I know most don’t have AA miles but I’m flying PDX to DFW with miles for 22k round trip … almost impossible to do better than that

Is that for a seat in the row right behind first class?

I was absolutely shocked

Would have been able to do something reasonable out of Seattle tonight with a red eye after the Kraken game but the flight back options all sucked and required a connection (bad idea this time of the year) …

Flying back to PDX and driving home gets me back effectively at the same time with less hassle
