That's more coming out of the closet than being left of them. Dems have been moving progressively left for some time. Guys like Scoop Jackson are completely absent from the modern Democrat Party. Blue dogs are the remaining vestiges of rationality in that party and they are far out numbered by the Maxine Waters and Nancy Pelosi types.
 
No way Portland will let Seattle get away with this. A full-on Communist will be coming to their city council next time around. After that it will be Seattle's turn again...
