That we ended up with DeBoner. Looking at other alleged head coach candidates at the time:

Campbell — currently getting shutout by Ohio. Will be lucky to win 3 games.

Clawson — currently losing to Old Dominion. Saw his best player flee in the portal this year.

Haffley — yikes. Probably getting fired this year.

Anyone I miss?

How much did Matt Campbell cost himself? IIRC there was rumors of him at Notre Dame and the Detroit Lions same time we were after him.
 
I don't know what happened because he should have been easily attainable, but Haffley feels like the Jen Cohen hire. East coast guy that the players love while losing games.
 
Campbell was a covid year legend. I watched all sorts of weird teams do well that year because the Pac12 student athletes were not participating
