SEC adopting 9-game conference schedule

I'm hearing this likely means the SEC plans to agree to 4 automatic CFP qualifiers, along with the B1G, leaving ACC and Big12 with 2 each (at most) in a 16-team format.
Further, this likely will end conference championship games for B1G and SEC. Instead, the top 2 teams get automatic bids whereas teams 3-6 must play-in; that is, 3 v 6, 4 v 5, with games played on campus during the week after the end of regular season. Way more TV money and interest with this format. I like it.
Finally, this may force the ACC and Big12 to merge, with teams dividing into divisions to better balance the huge travel distances currently incurred. They get 4 teams, a larger piece of TV revenue, and it will save millions in travel costs for the Olympic sports.

Conference championship game money is going to willingly be given up? I will see that when I believe it.

I think the idea is that the in-league play-in games will double the conference championship game money.
I will also believe that when I see it.
There is zero incentive for the top teams to play in the CCG if they're already locked into the CFP. Coaches openly discussing "opting out". If networks can get more $$ from elimination games, and those games actually mean something, why don't you think they'd do it?

I agree that the opt-out or rest the starters thing will become the huge problem for the CCG's.
iirc they’d keep the CCG. 1-2, 3-6, 4-5. Three games. No one’s opting out of a CCG. Oregon-psu last year both teams were already locked into the playoff and there was some incentive to actually lose and get the easier draw (smu and then Boise). Both teams went 100% all out and it was a great game.
Certainly possible. Would have helped Oregon to have lost.

I think people will still want a CCG and the 2 extra play in games. The networks could double their or they could triple it.
So they can't play some Big Ten or ACC team in Dallas or Atlanta, then Troy State, Georgia Southern, and the Charleston Beauty School?

So, only 2 FCS opponents going forward.

Yeah with the bloated conferences should especially play more conference games than ever. We're already seeing it where teams only have to win 1-2 games on their schedule against teams with pulses to make the playoffs.
I'd love to see a thing where Big 10/SEC teams have to play each other once every year and maybe one against ACC/Big 12. Draw the matchups out of a lottery 2-3 years before like the NBA lottery and televise it during the halftime of conference championship games.

Would be sweet if they made the auto bids contingent on this. Ex. For a 12 team playoff, Whoever wins the big ten/sec challenge gets 4, loser gets 3. Do a big 12/acc one, too that does the same. Winner gets 2, loser gets 1.
Add a Pac-12 vs Mtn West series. Loser gets zero, winner gets zero with sprinkles.
