I was listening to Rush years when he first predicted that Liberals were going to attack SUV's. I almost drove off the road laughing.

Goldwater, the father of the modern conservative movement, didn't care about the Gays. He really did want government out of lives. He got crushed by LBJ who was in the process of expanding government on a large scale.

Reagan took the mantle but in order to win he joined the growing evangelical movement of the 70's which brought social conservatism into the libertarian movement. Reagan himself was a Hollywood California guy who was not overtly socially conservative.

It's been a rocky marriage which now has both parties arguing how much government to intrude in what areas of our lives. Presidential campaigns are fought on issues the President doesn't control like abortion and how much free shit each party is going to give to who.

The democrats fought the evangelicals, of which their Black base was a large part of, by calling them racists. Because they said so. And then they formed a coalition of the stupid to go along with their old liberal base. (hi Hondo) And they are nothing like the stalwart liberals of old like FDR and Scoop, who like Flea or my logger dad, would smash your face in.

They embraced hatred of America and surrender as a policy which lost a lot of us who actually like a lot of things about living in these United States. They turned on the Jews who all but invented liberalism to embrace anti antisemitism on campus and sympathy for Jihadis who would slit their gay loving women's rights throats in an instant.

So this is the choice we have. As a believer I don't want government within a million miles of religion. I share that with my atheist friends. I want less government but don't want rivers on fire again or air that chokes you. I want cheap energy and dead Jihadis stacked like cord wood. I want legal weed and Gays to have full rights so they shut the fuck up.
