How does this one compare to the original Crimean War in terms of public support? Were people for sending cannons and frigates? Did Franklin Pierce stand toe to toe with Nicholas? Did Applepay get shutoff?

She’s right on this one. Random people from all over are coming there. The weapons will get randomly distributed in the end. Russia will formally pull out at some point in the not too distant future getting some geographical concessions. Then they’ll go back to the proxy war version but with a front line shifted a lot further west than before any of this.

It’s gonna devolve into a free for all with Syrians, Chechens, actual Nazis, Russian gangsters, etc all hanging around with a bunch of high end international funded weapons and international reconstruction money flowing in.

I don’t think they need that to begin with. Moldova has been bullied for 30 years by a town on the border with Ukraine that stayed loyal to the USSR, I’ve been - it’s a bizarro world. Moldova’s military has the same budget as a McDonald’s franchise.

I hate to speak ill of a peaceful nation that mainly grows fruit and turns it into wine, but Moldovans are not very bright. It’s partly why their economy mainly consists of wine, I don’t think they’ve developed the 15th century technology to distill it into brandy yet.

Anyone could take Moldova. An Idaho militia, the Swiss guard, a well trained Cirque du Soleil troupe. The US completely disarmed them, afraid that some smooth talking arms dealer or terrorist would be able to acquire their small fleet of Migs for some magic beans. The USSR gave weapons to everyone, except for they didn’t trust Moldovans. Not their loyalty, they just didn’t want them to accidentally kill each other when trying to figure out how they work.

I know a couple of Moldovans. All of this rings completely true. They couldn't pour piss out of a boot with the directions on the heel. The Cirque du Soleil bit made me laff.
